Hi there, I wanted to let you know about Kiva (www.kiva.org), a non-profit organization that allows you to lend as little as $25 to a specific low-income entrepreneur across the globe. You choose who to lend to - whether a baker in Afghanistan, a goat herder in Uganda, a farmer in Peru, a restaurateur in Cambodia, or a tailor in Iraq - and as they repay their loan, you get your money back.   2. Kiva and how it works.  Lenders like you browse the entrepreneurs’ profiles and choose someone to lend to, using PayPal or their credit cards. The money is then passed by Kiva to their field partners. The field partners manage the distribution of the money and the repayments back to Kiva.   4. Meet the entrepreneurs The entrepreneurs are dedicated people who instead of waiting for money have or want to start a small business. What Kiva does is lend them money so they can expand or create a great business. This does not only help the person or their family but the whole community can benefit from their business.   5. If you don’t want to lend, buy a gift certificate for someone you know. Go to http://www.kiva.org/ and click on "Kiva Gifts" at the top of the page. Under "Gift Certificates", click "Purchase now." Follow the instructions to purchase the Gift Certificate. You can purchase multiple gift certificates at one time, or, if you'd like the recipient to receive their gift via email with a personal message, you'll need to purchase them one at a time. Click "Purchase Gift Certificates." The gift giver will then be taken to "My Basket". At this point they can return to the Kiva Gifts page to purchase more Gift Certificates, or click on the LEND tab to make a loan, before checking out through PayPal.
