  2. What is a OLED? • OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diodes • It’s a solid-state semiconductor device that is 100 to 500 nanometers thick. • Consists of 5 Layers • Will make LCD and Plasma Screens Obsolete

  3. How does OLED work? • OLED’s operate on the attraction between positively and negatively charged particles • Energy passing through Cathode and Anode layer stimulates organic material cause it to emit light Cathode (−); Emissive Layer; Emission of radiation; Conductive Layer; Anode (+)

  4. Real World Applications • What can OLED’s do for us? • Transparent OLED’s for Cars, Windows, Laptops

  5. More energy efficient screens • Double Sided Screen for uses in flip phones • Requires less power then other display technology to run

  6. Advantages • OLEDs do not require backlighting like LCDs • Are brighter than LEDs and LCD’s • Are easier to produce and can be made to larger sizes. • Have large fields of view • Can be flexible instead of rigid

  7. Disadvantages • Lifetime(OLED films) • Red & Green have up to 230,000 hours • Blue has only 14,000 hours • Manufacturing processes are expensive at the moment • Water can easily damage OLEDs

  8. Summary • Current OLEDs are to expensive • Real world Applications such as a Heads Up Display for cars • Large amount of real world applications

  9. Thanks for Listening
