  2. OBJECTIVES • To discuss Nehemiah Chapters 1 – 6 • To note the significance of rebuilding walls • To acknowledge our roles as individuals in the process • To highlight our role as young people in the church’s mission: We all Have This Ministry to Rise and Build

  3. NEHEMIAH • This slide would highlight background of Nehemiah – an ordinary person, who had a vision and trusted God to help him attain it….what was his claim to fame?

  4. SIGNIFICANCE OF A WALL • Strength • Security • Keep Out Enemies • Examples of walls: • Wall of Jericho which ‘tumbled down’ • Walls of the City of Babylon • Berlin Wall

  5. REBUILDING THE WALL • Acknowledge that the wall is in ruins • Nehemiah 1: 3 – 4 • You will never rebuild the walls until you first weep over the ruins • Pray • How do you pray? Do you know how to pray? • Lessons from Nehemiah’s prayer • Nehemiah 1: 5 - 10

  6. REBUILDING THE WALL • Have a vision • A vision requires looking to he future and being committed to the task ahead. • What can prevent you from going after ‘the vision’: • Fear • Lack of Self-Confidence • Low self-worth • Nehemiah 2: 2 – 5; 7 – 9

  7. REBUILDING THE WALL • Be prepared • Make a plan • Put the plan in action at the ‘right time’ • Be prepared for opposition • How can opposition be displayed: • External Opposition • Internal Opposition • Be aware that there may be stumbling blocks in the road and trust God to help you jump over them

  8. REBUILDING THE WALL • Inspire/get others to help – no man is an island… • Get people who are willing to work • Divide the work : principle of division of labour • Nehemiah 3

  9. OPPOSITION TO THE REBUILDING • Opposition can be displayed externally as well as internally • Opposition can come in the form of: • Discouraging words • Ridicule • “Bad-mind” • Persecution • Contempt • Conspiracy • Cunning

  10. OPPOSITION TO THE REBUILDING • Although there was opposition, the wall was rebuilt in a record 52 days.

  11. ARISE AND BUILD • What are the walls today? • What can each individual do to help? • What role can YOU play? • Will YOU take a step of faith or wait on someone else to do it? • What can be done to overcome opposition?

  12. ARISE AND BUILD • WILL YOU RISE AND BUILD THE CHURCH? “WE ALL HAVE THIS MINISTRY TO RISE AND BUILD”
