  2. The design and development of the GIS and its associated applications achieved through assessment of the following: 1. User’s (or organization) needs. 2. Personnel experiences. 3. Availability of Data 4. Status and availability of hardware and software. 5. Future plans of the organization. 6. Impacts of building the data system on the organization.

  3. Availability and needs of both partners were identified and summarized.

  4. The initial proposed plan for the Information System

  5. Editing and updating of the proposed plan: Information System for Environmental management of Lake Maryut 4. Meteorological Data 1. General Data 2. Geology 3. Water bodies and Activities 5. Land Use and Activities around the Lake 6. Environmental Impacts 7. Lake Basins 8. Satellite Data During the second technical mission that held in Alexandria (25-26 March, 2008) the GIS work plan was discussed.

  6. Structuring of the Information System: (according to suggestions of Dr. Xavier Marti

  7. CEDARE workshop (8-9 June 2008) update the design in several points: Scale. Level of concern. Relations and Sharing. Handling the layers in different manner.

  8. GIS data evaluation and ranking, a priority table has been created A list of recommended institutions, authorities, organizations The needs were assess and a need assessment report was produced.

  11. It has six different main menus that follow the final database design for the GIS data.

  12. Each main menu has a number of sub-menus which truncated into a number of sub-menus too.

  13. Building the Geodatabase

  14. Status of the GIS System (Geodatabase): The system now is ready to accept all the data needed for the system, now there are many data gaps, it contains some layers like:

  15. Roads Canals Maryut Valley (Salt Basins) Main Basin 6000 F Fishery Basin 1000 F SE Basin – 5000 F NW-Basin 3000 F SE Basin 2000 F Vacant Areas Industry Agriculture Areas Hydro dome Urban

  16. As the GIS system is now ready to receive any type of data (spatial or a spatial). Some data is began to received from partners, like those received from EMU as from EEAA as well.

All the received data will follow the data entry standard procedures, starting by quality checking, relation to the project goals, transformation, rectification, registration, ….etc During the next period the system will receive any available data to fulfill the requirements of goals (specially the highly ranked – high priority – data sets). A training for the GIS system for the two partners GIS members will achieved soon.
