  2. Using OPAC at Dunn Elementary • What is OPAC? • OPAC stands for ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG. It is the place to go to find out what books and resources we have in our library. • Guess what? You can look at OPAC from ANY computer with Internet access – at school or in your own home!

  3. This is our OPAC HomePage Notice the new look! Easy to read symbols are on the side!

  4. The Fastest Place to Start is with the Default “All Words” and “Title” Entries

  5. Let’s Try: “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”(….with a little help from Jeff Kinney…) You can type the title right into the empty slot on the homepage.

  6. Several copies come up; which title do you want? How many holdings are in??

  7. Who is the Author? What is the call number, or “address “ of the book you want? You guessed it! Author- Jeff Kinney Call Number: F Kin

  8. Not sure? Add it to your “clipboard” and keep Looking! Click on Clipboard button! Clipboard Page: • Click!

  9. Let’s go back to the Homepage now (Home button) and Do a “Simple” Search! Let’s go back to Homepage now with the Home Button……..

  10. ….and take a look at “Simple” Search!

  11. Simple and “All Words” Brings up all “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Titles in our Library!

  12. Now let’s check out the “Search” Button………

  13. This provides every” Wimpy Kid” Title…….

  14. The Advanced Button Gives More Options….. diary kid Say you don’t remember the whole title….you can type diary and kid into the “All Words” blanks…..

  15. This brings up the Six Titles in Another Way…..

  16. Now let’s hit “Clear Search” and look for something else with the Advanced Screen…….

  17. Let’s look for “basketball….and James” basketball James

  18. Several titles come up……….. • Five titles about LeBron James……. ….and one by author James Naismith about the invention of basketball!

  19. ….Or…Let’s type in “Dogs” only……. Dogs

  20. ….and see we have 522 titles!! You would have to scroll through several pages to find the dog you want……. OR…..

  21. …add the word “Boxer” and find a More Specific Title Without so Much Searching! Pretty cool, huh? See how quick that can be??

  22. At any Time you can go “Home” and start all over…

  23. It’s really just that simple….. Search Buttons on Left…… Place to type words in Top Center…..

  24. ….once you know OPAC ….You know how to help yourself find books in the library!
