1. Conceal • verb • To hide from view or to keep secret • Ex: The robber concealed his gun from the gas station attendant.

2. Dash • verb • To throw violently, especially so as to break to pieces • Ex: The little boy dashed the clump of sand on the sidewalk and laughed when it broke apart.

3. drawback • noun • An unfavorable condition; a disadvantage or shortcoming • Ex: One drawback of being the oldest kid in my family is I often have to baby-sit my brothers and sisters.

4. imp • noun • An evil spirit • Ex: There had to be an imp at work in the movie Paranormal Activity.

5. meddle • verb • To interfere in the affairs of another person without being asked • Ex: I’ve asked my mom to quit meddling in my love life about a million times!

6. particle • noun • A tiny portion; a very small bit • Ex: How embarrassing! I didn’t notice I had a particle of lettuce stuck in my teeth when I was talking to that huge group of people.

7. prolong • verb • To lengthen or extend; to draw out or continue • Ex: Most of us probably agree that summer could’ve been prolonged another week or two…or three or four!

8. slay • verb • To kill violently • Ex: Edward most likely would have slayed Jacob if Bella hadn’t have stopped him.

9. temper Verb • To bring to the desired state of toughness; of glassware, to toughen by sudden cooling from low red heat • Ex: An important part of glassware manufacturing is the process of tempering.

10. utter • Verb • To speak or express • John uttered an unhappy response to his dad when he told him he couldn’t stay overnight at his friend’s house.
