  3. 2013-2014 LAUSD Goal #4- Provide ongoing mechanisms for family and community engagement: • Increasing academically focused family and community engagement. • Developing and implementing a family and community engagement plan which provides information and data on a formal and frequent basis to all district stakeholders and community collaborators.

  4. How Can Schools Engage Families? • Create a welcoming environment • Provide parents opportunities to learn and support instruction at home • Implement a volunteer program • Respond to parents’ concerns • Comply with federal, state, and district requirements

Teachers and staff participate in quarterly PD on the following topics: Developing a Welcoming Environment In Your Classroom for Parents and Students, Holding Data Conversations with Parents, Developing a grade-level or discipline-specific School-Parent Compact, Student-Led Conferencing, Utilizing Parent Volunteers in Classroom and School Activities [CE-2 Requirement]

  11. Parent Support Staff (e.g., Coordinator) provides monthly [regular] reports on student progress to SSC and Advisory Committees Teachers use online grading system to publish grade books as well as communicate with parents regarding student progress Parent Support Staff publishes a monthly parent newsletter with calendar of upcoming events.

Training is held monthly on the following topics; Developing a School-Parent Partnership Using the School-Parent Compact and Title I Parent Involvement Policy, LAUSD Graduation Requirements/College Workshops/Financial Aid Workshops, Literacy/Numeracy/Common Core Readiness Workshops, School/Student Data Review and Relevance, How to Support Children’s Learning At Home and At School, Using Technology to Access Academic Resource Parent Center Personnel hold monthly training to build the capacity of parents to support learning at home and at school
