  4. Salzburg • The city of salt • Birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart • Sound of Music MOZART • Started taking piano lessons at age 4. • When he was 6, he played for the Austrian emperor, continued playing for kings • Very talented composer • Pianos were important

Vienna • City of music and culture • Over 50 theaters • 4 opera houses • 100 museums • Many orchestras, ensembles FRANZ SCHUBERT • Born in Vienna in 1797 • Wrote over 600 Lieder • Unfinished symphony • His father was a teacher • Played violin, viola, piano, sang • Died at age 31, poor and very sick

Vienna SängerKnaben • Vienna Boys’ Choir was formed in 1478 • Boys are selected from Austria and other countries • Famous musicians like Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, and Bruckner were associated with the VBC • Now the groups are divided into 4 equal choirs • The boys live in  that palace and tour all over the world
