  1. Linac4 controls and software applications. General overview, requirements and deadlines G Bellodi - L4BCC meeting – 26/05/2011

  2. BE/ABP Setting requirements& specifications Coordination (G Bellodi) OP group, application programming (J-L Sanchez Alvarez) Individual equipment groups , FESA front-end software BE/CO Control systems, HW infrastructure .. (I Kozsar) G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  3. 3 MeV Test Stand • and beyond.. G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  4. Generic control tools • E-logbook – already in use • CCM/Working-sets available • Alarms – LASER extension • Vacuum – PVSS extension ? • Radiation – RAMSES • Interlocks – application, FESA classes already existing, only needs deployment (B Puccio and team, done in the past but first time Linux installation) G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  5. Beam instrumentation G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  6. Emittance meter application LEM screenshot xvs x’ • Separate LEM + e reconstruction • Originally on different platforms & not very user-friendly (need to set a lot of parameters to launch a scan, very easy to make mistakes, BI colleagues only experts at the moment) • Work ongoing towardsone single application performing scan and emittance reconstruction  Evgeny’s talk G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  7. Equipment control: source Current 3 MeV proton source application. Plans for more sophisticated control system being drafted for L4 H- source. G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  8. Equipment control: chopper • First phase of manual testing to calibrate obtained deviatonvs voltage applied (DC operation) • Tests of AC operation and beam time structure with halo monitor. • Proposal under discussion : • Initially (2012) use existing BE-CO timing cards with a resolution of 25ns to provide bunch sequences for tests of basic chopper functionalities. Possibility to use RF LHC-style hardware if finer resolution (sub-ns) is required. Standard controls solution: FESA class already available. OP customisation if needed. • End 2012: LLRF development at 352MHz .Commissioning time slot should be planned for testing simple beam sequences at 3 MeV in the tunnel, as starting point for a full LLRF validation and more complex tests of L4 synchronisation to the PSB and beam production schemes. FESA classes provided by RF. Simple application needed to define bunch sequences to be tested. Ideally identify a person in OP to take charge and follow up all LLRF-related work in view of developing the final “Linac4 Super-application”(?). G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  9. General purpose OASIS: initially not foreseen, request has since been approved for a package to have availability of signals from transformers, pick-ups and power supplies  Ioan’s talk G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  10. 3 MeV Test Stand • and beyond.. G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  11. H-Source application J Lettry Time dependent values will be acquired via oscilloscopes: 2 OASIS systems x 16channels (8x10MHz bandwidth , 8x100MHz bandwidth ) Ex. date=03/2013 at the latest G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  12. PSB injection application • -control/status for H- foil exchanger • - viewing SW and control for foil camera (could be like BTV application). • dedicated BLMs synoptic • data logging - what, with what frequency, what filtering etc. • dump current monitoring (normalisation to the injected beam intensity to judge if the foil is degrading). • display of beam intensity in the line, intensity circulating, transmission/injection efficiency values Ex. date=2014 G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  13. L4-to-PSB synchro application for beam production schemes • High level applications to control chopper/pre-chopper sequences and synchronisation timings in PPM mode according to super-cycle specifications • Setting up of users in the super-cycle : intensity per beam, number of PSB rings for injection, number of turns per ring. From these settings the correct chopper and pre-chopper sequences are selected. • Synchronization of the beam delivered by Linac4 with the PSB RF system • LLRF system compensation of beam loading transients by feed-forward • Energy modulation for longitudinal painting if needed • External conditions (suppressing injection into one or more rings) and interlocks internally accounted for. Complex tool but to be kept of as simple use as possible Ex. date=2014 G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  14. L4 beam instrumentation G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  15. Other commissioning/OP tools G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting

  16. Umbrella overview • 3 MeV test stand : • Progress is ongoing and details/requests are being defined for software and hardware needs. • Coordination meetings are held ~every couple of weeks, with more specific meetings in between. •  Present status, progress tracking, deliverables • ) Linac4 • Longer term planning (considering both development and maintenanceneeds): • -availability of resources • - impact from LS1 activities • - expected showstoppers? G Bellodi - L4BCC - meeting
