  10. Modern substation technologyCIGRE SC B3 “Substations” TAG (Tutorial Advisory Group) The general objective of the TAG is to advise the Study Committee and its Chairman on the implementation of CIGRE policy in relation to tutorials .

  11. Modern substation technologyCIGRE SC B3 “Substations” AA1 Substations Concepts and Developments” The advisory area covers the whole substation in a system approach as nodes of optimal power systems. The main directions outlined in the Strategic Plan should guide the activities related to AA1. The technical, environmental and economical aspects related to substation concepts, should be an integral part of the activities. • WG B3.11: Combining Innovation with Standardization. • B3.12 Obtaining Value from Substation Condition Monitoring • WG B3.13 Reducing Replacement Time of High Voltage Equipment. • WG B3-C1-C2.14 Circuit Configuration Optimization

  17. Documentation of Work (1) • DOCUMENTATION • Publish and make available papers and guides drawn up by CIGRE, such as : SF6, EMF, Mixed Technologies Switchgear… It should contribute to recognition of CIGRE as a technical reference body.

  18. Documentation of Work (2) • ELECTRA (CIGRE Publication) • A report on the technical activities of CIGRE, referred to as General Report, will be published every year in the June issue. To this end, the detailed Study Committee Progress Reports on the basis of which the General Report will be drawn up will have to be available by mid-April. These Progress Reports and the General Report will be available on the CIGRE website and freely accessible to all.

  19. SC B3 “Substations” next meeting: (CIGRE conference Paris) Thursday 28th August 2008 Palais des Congrès, Salle Bleue, 08.45 hrs I hope to welcome you all!

  20. Preferential Subject 1 • PS1: • Lessons learned on Substation Asset Use Optimization • Refurbishment, renewal and maintenance strategies. • Influences of dynamic loading on maintenance policy and asset performance. • Substation lifecycle cost reduction. • Benefits of condition monitoring for decision support.

  21. Preferential Subject 2 • PS2: • New Challenges in Substations • Impacts of future network concept, e.g. “smart grids”, on substation design, primary and secondary (digital communication, automation, control and operation) • Connecting new renewable generation including offshore substations. • Coping with major growth, e.g. mega-cities and metropolitan areas. • Designs for least environmental impact. • Innovative designs/layouts to increase operational flexibility, overcome site constraints (including economical consequences), etc. • Impact and experience of the process bus on the substation as a whole.
