Grand unified theories (GUTs) • Unification of gauge groups in standard model: } Electromagnetic interaction } SU(2)L X U(1)Y GUT Weak interaction Strong interaction (SU(3)C) Charge quantization • Unification of quarks and leptons: e.g. SU(5) GUT: Correlation between quark and lepton flavor structures Mitsuru Kakizaki

Supersymmetric standard model • Supersymmetry (SUSY): FermionBoson e.g. Quark Squark GauginoGauge boson Superpatner One of solutions to hierarchy problem • No superparticle has been discovered SUSY must be broken (Soft) SUSY breaking terms are required e.g. soft sfermion mass terms: Generation indices New flavor-dependent parameters are introduced Mitsuru Kakizaki

  5. SUSY flavor problem Generic sfermion masses and mixings Unacceptably large flavor changing processes[flavor changing neutral current (FCNC), lepton flavor violation (LFV)] c.f. in SM, GIM mechanism adequately suppresses FC processes • e.g. K meson mixing: Severe constraint: Mitsuru Kakizaki

  6. Attempts to solve SUSY flavor problem 1. Degeneracy: e.g. minimal supergravity (mSUGRA): • Sfermion masses arise in flavor blind manner at high energy scale • Sfermion generation mixings are induced only by RG effects (e.g. at ) 2. Alignment: • Both fermion and sfermion generation mixings are controlled by same flavor physics at high energy scale Various attempts are distinguished by operative and future experiments searching for rare processes Mitsuru Kakizaki

SUSY GUTs • SUSY SM with soft breaking terms: • Severe constraints on parameters • Detectable FCNC and CP violation • GUTs: • Unification of quark and lepton flavor • SUSY GUTs: well motivated by gauge coupling unification • Unification of mass matrices of squarks and sleptons By investigating correlations between hadronic and leptonic observables, we can probe structure of SUSY GUTs Attention to K, B physics, LFV decays and EDMs Mitsuru Kakizaki

Constraints from hadronic EDMs • Electric dipole moments (EDMs): T-odd observables KM phase does not induce detectable EDMs EDMs are sensitive to CP violation beyond SM • CP violation at dimension five level: Quark CEDMs Quark EDMs • Constraint on QCD theta parameter is relaxed by PQ symmetry Mitsuru Kakizaki

CP violation mixing CP violation Quark CEDM contributions to hadronic EDMs • EDM of neutron: [Hisano,Shimizu(2004)] Quark EDM contributions are comparable to those from CEDMs Experimental bound: • EDM of 199Hg atom: T-violating nuclear force Experimental bound: [Hisano,Shimizu(2004)] Mitsuru Kakizaki

  14. High energy SUSY breaking scenarios • Large top Yukawa coupling and CKM matrix LL sdown mixings inevitably arise due to RG effects: EDM experiments actually constrain RR sdown mixings: c.f. Severe constraints on CP violating 1-3 and 2-3 mixings in RR sdown sector Mitsuru Kakizaki

Charged lepton flavor violation (LFV) in SUSY seesaw model • Observation of neutrino oscillations Lepton mixing matrix: Flavor changing right-handed neutrino Yukawa coupling • Radiative corrections Slepton LL mixings: [Borzumati, Masiero(1986)] LFV: may be detected in foreseeable future Mitsuru Kakizaki

Summary • EDMs depend on flavor violating mass parameters via internal lines • We can probe SUSY GUT models by investigating correlations between hadronic EDMs and other observables • SU(5) SUSY GUTs with right-handed neutrinos: • Orbifold GUTs: • Marginal up quark CEDM to experimental bound • Observable LFV decays from RR slepton mixing Mitsuru Kakizaki

  26. Loopholes • There are uncertainties of estimates ofhadronic EDMs originated from hadronic physics • CP violating parameters may be extremely smallin theory beyond the SM • Various CP violating contributions may accidentally cancel Mitsuru Kakizaki

SUSY GUTs with right-handed neutrinos • Three gauge coupling constants are unified at high energy scale in presence of superparticles with masses of order of SUSY GUTs are inspired • Tiny neutrino masses Seesaw mechanism is inspired • SUSY GUTs with right-handed neutrinos are very promising as theory beyond SM Mitsuru Kakizaki
