Youth Justice Team Children and young people can be referred to the Youth Justice Team in 4 distinct ways: - Referral from the Children’s Reporter - Referral from another Social Work Team (5+ offences in 6 months or 1 serious offence) - Through the Court System for the preparation and monitoring of an Order - For diversion from prosecution

  3. Intervention ISS & ISMS • The aim of the Intensive Support Service (ISS) is: • to provide integrated and holistic support as a viable alternative to secure accommodation or custody for young people up to 18 years of age. • If ISS has not proven sufficient to manage risk then a Movement Restriction Condition (MRC) may be deemed necessary.

  4. Key elements of ISMS • Structured intervention services  • Education and Training • 24 hour/7 day intensive support and crisis intervention • Respite and ‘time out’

  5. Delivery - innovative • Intensive Community Support and Learning Service (Westburn Road) • Sacro -24/7 on call support • Foyer –1 to 1 learning, peer mentoring • Apex – activities, evening and weekends • Barnardos - offence focused work and activities, family service, mentoring service • Assertive Outreach Service - Sacro • Youth Justice Team - statutory case holder

  6. Community Risk Management Meeting Children’s Hearing Risk Assessment (Asset) 6 week ISMS assessment Planning meetings Alternative to remand - supervised bail assessment Identifying cases

  7. Benefits of ISMS? • Better outcomes for young people • Keep young people in Aberdeen • Support tailored to need • Shared risk management • Reassurance to the community • Improved information sharing • Better use of resources

  8. Summary of ISMS so far • Currently 5 young people on ISS • 3 on ISMS • Before - total of 132 crimefiles in previous 6 months • After - total of 37 crimefiles (various timescales) • Better outcomes? Showing potential...
