  2. 2010-2011District Highlights GMS wins $10,000 grant and visit from Cowboys’ player A focus at Grapevine Middle School on eating right and exercising has paid off, not only in better health, but also with big money and a special visit by Dallas CowboysTight End Jason Witten. At a special assembly, NFL representatives recognized GMS as a Play60 SuperSchool and presented Principal Tim Hughes with a $10,000 health and wellness grant. Jason Witten spoke to the students about the importance of health, wellness, hard work and staying in school.

  3. 2010-2011District Highlights Two GCISD students earn top ACT score Two GCISD seniors earned a top composite score of 36 on the ACT exam. Kyunghyun Lee, CHHS senior, and Abishek Kulshreshtha, a senior at GHS, accomplished a feat that only one-tenth of one percent of test takers achieve. In fact, among test takers who graduated in 2010, only 588 of nearly 1.6 million students earned a composite score of 36. Kyunghyun Lee – CHHS Abishek Kulshreshtha - GHS

  4. 2010-2011District Highlights College Readiness Award recognizes increased number of test takers Grapevine High School has received the “2010 College Readiness Award” from the Texas ACT Council for maintaining or increasing the number of students taking the ACT Assessment over the past five years and significantly increasing their level of achievement and college readiness. Less than 6% of all high schools in Texas were honored for this superior level of accomplishment.

  5. 2010-2011District Highlights CHHS principal elected to board of state organization Becky Prentice, principal of Colleyville Heritage HighSchool, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Texas Assn. of Secondary School Principals. Becky has been a member of TAASP for 13 years. She has served as a principal in GCISD for nine years, with four of those at Colleyville Middle School, and five at Colleyville Heritage High School.

  6. 2010-2011District Highlights GHS teacher recognized by Grapevine VFW Post Jane Boyd has been named the Teacher of the Year by the Grapevine VFW Post 10454, and advanced to the district level of the competition for national honors. The VFW annually recognizes the nation’s top classroom elementary, junior high and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics – at least half of the school day in a classroom environment – and promote America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively.

  7. 2010-2011District Highlights Nurse earns national certification Annette Shirrell, RN, BSN, Dove Elementary’s school nurse, recently passed the National School Nursing Certification Exam to become a NationalCertified School Nurse (NCSN). She is the first GCISD school nurse to earn this certification and one of 3,247 school nurses nationally to receive the designation. In Texas approximately four percent of school nurses have this certification.

  8. 2010-2011District Highlights GCISD teachers are ‘Highly Qualified’ GCISD is proud to report that 100 percent of the district’s full-time teachers meet the state’s Highly Qualified requirements in their core content area teaching assignments for 2010-2011. GCISD has 760 certified teachers who teach core subjects, and all are rated Highly Qualified.

  9. 2010-2011District Highlights Calendar Option A approved by the Board School will beginonMonday, Aug. 22,2011 on the 2011-2012 student/teachercalendar that was approved by the GCISD Board of Trustees at the Nov. 15 meeting. Option A is supported by the District Excellence Committee and the majority of the community. State law requires that public schools begin classes no earlier than the fourth Monday in August, and local waivers for an earlier school start date are no longer an option.
