  3. HENCE (adv) Atlanta The airport’s closed! We’re looking for terrorists! • There was a terrorist problem in Atlanta, hence the late arrival of our plane. • HENCE (adv) = d’où Mangrovia HENCE We’re late!

  4. GIFT (n) • When we arrived on the island, lovely native girls gave us a gift of flowers. • a GIFT (n) = un cadeau, un don

  5. DRIVE (n) • The drive from the airport was along a dangerous narrow road. • a DRIVE (n) = un trajet, une course (en voiture, bus etc)

  6. FAITH (n) Do you think we’ll get there in one piece, Frank? • I didn’t have any faith in the bus driver, but Frank said we would be fine. • FAITH = • la confiance • la foi Don’t worry, Sylvia, we’ll be fine

  7. POCKET (n) • Oh dear, my shirt pocket has got a hole in it. • a POCKET (n) = une poche

  8. BEACH (n) • The beach is fantastic – two kilometres long! • a BEACH (n) = une plage

  9. REST (v) • A child is resting under the palm tree. • to REST (v) = se reposer

  10. ROLL (v) • We watched a coconut that rolled from a tree. • to ROLL (v) = rouler

  36. ATTRACTIVE (adj) • Frank has been watching some attractive young ladies on the volleyball court. • ATTRACTIVE = attirant, séduisant

  37. THICK (adj) • In some places the jungle is so thick it’s impossible to enter. • THICK = épais

  38. WING (n) • I think that the wing on that plane may be broken. • a WING = une aile

  39. MAP (n) • A map of the area would be useful for finding our way around. • a MAP = une carte géographique

  40. MEMORY TEST What happened to your nose? It’s all red! I burned it when I was lighting my cigarette.

  41. My nose is all red from sitting in the sun.

  42. Hey, look at Sylvia surfing! Wow, the way she rides on that board. Amazing!

  50. The jungle's not very thick, is it? No, it's possible to walk just about everywhere.
