  3. Chapter 2: The Word of God What are the different forms of the Word of God?

  4. A. “The Word of God” as a Person: Jesus Christ • Rev 19:13: He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. (ESV) • Jn 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (ESV)

  5. B. “The Word of God” as Speech by God • 1. God’s Decrees (Ps 33:6; Heb 1:3) • 2. God’s Words of Personal Address (Ex 20:1-3; Matt 3:17) • 3. God’s Words as Speech Through Human Lips(Deut 18:18-20; Jer 1:9) • 4. God’s Words in Written Form—the Bible (Ex 31:18; 32:16; Jer 30:2)

  6. C. The Focus of Our Study • God’s Word in Written Form—the Bible • Ps 1:1-2: Blessed is the man who...his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. (ESV) • Josh 1:8: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (ESV)

The Focus of Our Study • God’s Word in Written Form—the Bible • 2 Tim 3:16: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness... (ESV) • Habakkuk 2:2: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets • Jeremiah 36:27-32: Intended to be a permanent record • 2 Kings 22:10-13: Not supposed to be ignored • Matthew 24:15: Read it. Understand it. • Revelation 22:18-19: Hear the words. Don’t add to them. Don’t take away from them.
