  13. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box There’s also a method for adding a comment to any of the formulas in your worksheet... perhaps to remind you what that formula does.

  14. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box To add a comment to a formula, you use the N() function instead of a comment text box. N()

  15. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box Begin by clicking the cell that contains the formula you want to comment on.

  16. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box Click at the end of the Formula field.

  17. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box Type a plus sign... a letter N... a parenthesis open... and a parenthesis closed.

  18. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box Now... inside the two parentheses... type your comment... remembering to put a quotation mark at the beginning and end of your comment.

  19. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box When you press “Enter” Excel will add your comment to the formula...

  20. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box and place a little blue-green triangle in the upper left corner of the cell.

  21. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box The +N() function keeps your comment from affecting the formula’s actions... so the cell displays only the results of the formula. +N()

  22. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box Just be sure you remember to put your comment in quotes inside those parentheses. N(“”)

  23. EXCEL: Adding a comment to a text box That’s all there is to it. Now, if you would like a copy of the step-by-step directions for inserting comments in Excel worksheets, just print this last page. Have fun commenting!
