  2. Mission Overview • The Balloon Sat Flight Club shall ascend to an altitude of 30 kilometers in order to: • Image the curvature of the earth and the celestial sky in the daylight • Measure the light intensity as a function of altitudes.

Mission Purpose • The team shall image the curvature of the earth and the celestial sky in order to demonstrate the capacities of high altitude imaging. • The team shall measure light intensity as a function of altitude to determine whether there is a discontinuity at the flight level of commercial aircraft. troposphere and the surface of the earth. • Search for a correlation between commercial aviation and global warming, which is known to be caused by increased light intensity.

Design: Hardware • Foam Core- lightweight outer layer • Thermal Sheets- gold colored foil to assist in overcoming the subzero temperatures • Hobo Data Logger- 4 channel data collection and processing system to perform the science mission during the flight. • External/Internal Temperature Probe-To take internal and external temperature readings during flight • Cannon Digital Camera- Will be used to image the curvature of the earth • Heating System- To keep the payload above 0 degrees Celsius • Timing Circuit- Circuit that commands camera to take pictures • Batteries- Powers satellite • Solar Panel- The solar panel is a sheet of solar cells that attaches to the outside of the satellite in order to measure the voltage created by the varying intensities of light as a function of altitude. The voltage data can be interpreted as a measure of light intensity.
