  1. Technical Training Proposal: Kuwait By Nick Stowers

  2. Needs • Although the country of Kuwait encourages post-secondary education, they often lack in areas of training that will provide technical skills for an individual. • Despite an urgent need for vocational and technical training, the move towards vocational education has been met with resistance because of cultural values and beliefs that technical and vocational education is socially unacceptable and economically unrewarding.

  3. Needs • University degrees are valued above all other forms of education and the value of education is viewed in relation to social values, such as enhancing marriageability among females combined with negative views towards work that encompasses service, trades and non-management/business ownership status.

  4. Proposed Training • Agriculture • The country of Kuwait is almost completely made up of sand. • By providing a positive and resourceful agriculture system, we can diminish the death of certain wildlife that cannot survive in sand only.

  5. The Idea • We must first start by scientifically studying agriculture in the country with the participation of the farming community; to carry the results to a broad range of farmers who could use them; and to train farmers, extension workers, agricultural teachers and researchers so that agricultural production could continue to be increased on a sustained basis.

  6. The Plan • An ideal situation will be to send several agriculture experts to Kuwait for 1 year. These individuals will collect findings and report back to the organization. Once results have been reported, we will then start to do the training. With the results we will begin to train farmers, extension workers, agricultural teachers and researchers.

  7. Issues or barriers • Maintaining progress: It could raise issues to who will make sure that the agriculture development is maintained. It may be smart to leave a representative in the country after the project is complete. • Getting the country on board: Kuwait is a very independent country when it comes to outsiders trying to influence the country. The project could raise concerns from the political leaders as the try to maintain autonomy. • Environmental factors:The heat and dryness of Kuwait could make it hard for plants and trees to live.

  8. Notional budget • The overall project budget will be projected at $10 million dollars. These funds will come from donors and sponsors of the project.

  9. Time Frame • The entire project should last 5 years. However, contingent on funding and results, it could last longer.

  10. The End
