  2. What is high cholesterol? • Cholesterol is a required fat in the body which is found in the blood. • Too much cholesterol causes blockages in your blood vessels. It becomes stuck to the inner walls of your vessels as fatty deposits, the more cholesterol the more and larger the fat deposit. The more fat deposit the higher the chance of a vessel becoming completely blocked. • A blocked vessel can then burst.

  3. How is it detected in a routine eye exam? • Your optometrist at Norman Salmoni will look for physical signs on the surface of your eyeball which are indicative of high cholesterol.

  4. What can be done? • If you are not already aware of your high cholesterol and receiving treatment for it, your optometrist will advise you see your GP.
