  1. Grant Wood Landscapes • What do you think a landscape is?

  2. Grant Wood: • Born in Iowa • Grew up on a farm • Loved art at an early age. • Liked drawing pictures of nature and everything around him. • (farm animals, houses, trees, and chickens-his favorite.

  3. When Grant was in 8th grade, he entered one of his drawings in a nationwide art contest. The picture of oak leaves won a prize of $5. Grant began selling his paintings during high school. He sold them in order to buy art supplies.

  4. Grant painted very carefully. • He used crisp lines and solid shapes. What kinds of shapes do you see? Where? Young Corn Grant Wood

  5. Grant loved to paint landscapes of the country side. • He also loved to paint pictures of his family, friends, and farm. Woman with the Plants Grant Wood

  6. Regionalism: • Grant’s style of painting • Popular in the 1920’s & 1930’s • American style of art • Got its name from landscape painters and the people of the Midwest Iowa Ohio
