  3. Ozone: driving forces and emissions – the evidence 1. 2.

  4. Ozone: ground level concentrations – the situation now • 10-50 2. 40-80

  5. Air Quality CO NO2 TSP SO2

  6. Air Quality

  7. Acid deposition: driving forces and emissions – the situation now • Industry • Transportation • Domestic, • Others: Waste open burning; Transboundary, etc.

  8. Acid deposition : driving forces and emissions – the situation in 2030 • Industry • Transportation • Others: Waste open burning; Transboundary, etc.

  9. Acid deposition : driving forces and emissions – the evidence • Statistical data • Projection (National monitoring network; Research) (National and international)

  10. Acid deposition: deposition rates – the situation now DRY DEPOSITION • SO2: 0.20-0.60mg/m3 • NO2: 0.15-0.30mg/m3 • CO: 15-60mg/m3 WET DEPOSITION • SO42-: Max. 550umol/L; 30-60mmol/m2 • NO3-: 40mmol/m2

  11. Acid deposition: deposition rates – the situation in 2030 • DRY DEPOSITION • SO2: 24391 ton/y (Indus. 16067; Trans: 6362; Domes: 1962) • NOx: 58886ton/y (Indus. 10886; Trans: 47550; Domes: 450) • CO: 511051 ton/y (Indus. 2812; Trans: 495108; Domes: 13131)

  12. Acid deposition: deposition rates – the evidence • Statistical data • Projection (National monitoring network; Research) • (National and international)

  13. Acid deposition: impacts – the situation now • In the North, the lowest pH value of found in Hoa Binh of 3.82, where is rich eco systems like lakes, rivers, forest that acid rain may cause effect on • Magnitude of acid rain in South of Vietnam and its impacts on shrimp farming are one of the early studies

  14. Acid deposition: impacts – the situation now • Acid rain has appeared in the central province of Quang Nam over the last few days, damaging crops in several areas in Dien Ban District, including 123 ha of cotton trees. • Gas emission from more than 120 ceramic and 1100 bricks enterprises in Vinh Long with more than 2300 chimneys has significantly effect on the growth of coconut garden and some other trees like mango, jackfruit; reduce the productivity of longan

  15. Acid deposition: impacts – the situation now • Gas emission of around 50 brick kilns in Long Bien Hanoi has damage on crops. The come from farm production (in 2000m2 field) significantly reduced to 300,000VND/year, in compared to 2,000,000VND/year in 2003-2004 • Acid rain causes the productivity reduction of 20-60% for vegetables in the field scale experiments.

  16. Acid deposition: impacts – the situation now • In Viet Tri industrial zone, Lam Thao, Phu Tho, the bananas gardens were affected by air pollution which is majority SO2 from Lam Thao Super phosphates factory. • In 1997 gas emission due to factory’s break down damaged all farms and trees in surrounding areas (Factory compensated 80mil.VND) • Shrimp farmed in Binh Khanh, Can Gio was shocked by acid rain during two days 12-13 of May, 2003 at high ratio, especially in improved extensive farming ponds.

  17. Acid deposition: impacts – the situation in 2030 1. Eco system including crops/forestry 2. Public health (direct and indirect) 3. Material, infrastructure 4. Others
