  1. Responsible Ownership-Vehicle Fuel Mileage and maintenance

  2. Fuel Economy • The most important element in determining the fuel economy of a particular vehicle is the driving techniques of the individual behind the wheel. • The importance of individual gasoline savings cannot be overemphasized.

  3. Energy Efficient Driving • Smooth Acceleration • Consistent Speed • Smooth Braking • Prolong Idling • Plan Your Route in Advance

  4. Fuel Conservation While Traveling • Use maps and atlases that give a clear view of routes available. • Try the internet to plan door-to-door trip analysis and estimate mileage. • Use of limited access highways (interstate) are safer and more energy efficient.

  5. Calculating Fuel Consumption • After a fill-up, record the odometer reading. • The next time you fill-up, record the reading again and how many gallons it took to fill-up. • Subtract the two odometer readings and divide that number by the gallons used to fill-up. • This number indicates the number of miles your vehicle can travel on one tank of gas!

  6. Vehicle Maintenance • Because vehicle requirements may vary greatly, one should always check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine the manufacturer’s recommended schedule for preventive maintenance. • Following the schedule will save you from paying expensive repair bills later. • Ignoring the recommended service intervals may also void the warranty on the vehicle.

  7. Owner’s Manual Guidelines • Engine oil requirements and changing oil filters • Proper grade of gasoline • Cleaning and replacing carburetor air filter • Servicing air conditioners • Power train maintenance • Ignition system and spark plugs • Engine performance evaluation

  8. Maintenance Checks • Set up a routine maintenance schedule. • Keep a record of work done. • Record whether you did the work or if you had a mechanic do the work.

  9. Other Routine Maintenance Checks • Weekly Oil Level • Windshield Wipers and Washer Fluid • Coolant • Tire Tread • Belt and Hose Condition • A/T Fluid • Power steering Fluid • Battery Cables and Terminals • Brakes and Shocks
