Era Key Facts (cont): • Politics: -Obama is the first black president. -American soldiers deployed in War on Terror. • Religion: -9/11happened because of differing religious beliefs. • Economics: -Stock market crash (2008) -BP oil spill; US lost almost 1.7 million barrels of oil every day. (2010)

  4. John Craig Venter Key Facts: • Birth date- October 14, 1946 • From America • Was the first to sequence the human genome • The human genome is the genetic code.

  5. Bird/ Swine Flu: • Who discovered Swine Flu? -No individual scientist discovered Swine Flu, many health organizations from various countries contributed to the discovery. The contribution of the World Health Organization had the most to do with the research.

  6. Bio-printer: • Team at Wake Forest invented a device able to create new organs. • Scientists took an ink jet printer, loaded it with cells in vials- in place of ink cartridges- to print skin cells directly over wound.

  7. Dr. Gero Hϋtter: • Birth date- December 18, 1968 • From Germany • Him and his team developed an efficient method of transplanting bone morrow to leukemia patients • Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow
