Who Are We? • English Language and Computer Learning Centers • (ELCLC) is a partner with the U.S. Embassy Kabul Public Affairs Section (PAS) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) • Funded by the US Embassy Kabul PAS and implemented by EducationalSupportOrganization (ESO) • Afghan managed project

What We Do? • Build the capacity of students and faculty members in English language byproviding access to Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Information Technology • Build capacity of universities in Afghanistan in areas designated in Afghan National Development Strategy (ANDS) and MoHE strategic plan as essential to rebuilding the MoHE system.

  5. What we Do cont… • Our emphasis is on developing proficiency in English language particularly the language specific to disciplines offered by universities by teaching them how to use web-based and computer assisted tools.

English Learning Objectives • Level 1 (Elementary) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand Simple Present and Present Continuous Tense and make questions with where, who, what, how • Write questions about requests and information • Write about dreams and jobs • Understand and present the main idea of 2 – 3 paragraphs regarding people, places and customs • Understand the location of something and understand the description of places and people • Talk about what people do and talk about his/her daily activities • Describe places and people

English Learning Objectives • Level 2 (Pre-Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand kinds of nouns and object Pronouns • Understand basic Simple Future Tense and Adverbs of Frequency • Write about plans using Simple Future Tense • Understand and present the main idea of 3 – 4 paragraphs regarding health, places and plans • Listen to and comprehend people’s plans • Understand people talk about health problems and shopping • Speak about their plans and talk about likes and dislikes

English Learning Objectives • Level 3 (Pre-Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand and use demonstrative pronouns and contrast between demonstrative adjectives • Understand Preposition of time • Know about types and parts of letters • Write social/friendly letters and applications • Understand and present the main idea of 3 – 6 paragraphs regarding customs, artists and families • Listen to and understand invitations and excuses and past events and vacations • Talk about routine activities using simple present tense and past events using simple past tense

English Learning Objectives • Level 4 (Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand comparative degree of an adjective • Understand present perfect tense and infinitives • Contrast between Simple future and Simple Present Tense • Write business/formal letter, memos, CV/resume • Read and present main idea of small topics of 240 – 280 words with moderate vocabulary regarding environment, customs and people’s plans • Understand time and place of an event from a conversation and evaluate changes in the future • Accept and refuse an invitations and give reasons • Talk about future plans

English Learning Objectives • Level 5 (Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand infinitives and gerunds and simple future tense • Contrast between Simple Past and Present Perfect Tense • Understand parts and characteristics of paragraph (7 C’s) and writing process • Read essays of 250 – 300 words with moderate vocabulary regarding physical and mental health, travel and life in the future and present its main idea • Listen to and understand people talk about their past • Talk about local transportation system, foods, restaurants, vacations and vacation plans

English Learning Objectives • Level 6 (Upper-Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand conditional sentences (real and unreal) and adjective clause • Understand Basic Active/Passive and present perfect continuous tense” • Write descriptive and narrative paragraph and use appropriate transitions • Read essays of 250 – 300 words with even moderate vocabulary regarding countries, newspapers, and jobs and present main idea • Listen to and understand people talk about changes, countries, interests and jobs • Talk about movies, actors or actresses and parties • Contemplate future and evaluate past events and report what people say

English Learning Objectives • Level 7 (Upper-Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand cases of adjective/relative clause, gerunds (subjective and objective case) • Understand and use passive infinitive and gerund in sentences • Write expository and persuasive paragraph and use appropriate transitions • Read essays of 250 – 300 words with professional mechanics and structures with difficult vocabulary about jobs, cultural misunderstandings, and other profession oriented problems and present main idea • Listen to and understand news broadcast and people’s opinions and views about their profession • Narrate a story

English Learning Objectives • Level 8 (Upper-Intermediate) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand infinitives/gerunds relative clause future perfect tense completely • Write an essay (100 – 250 words) Read essays and stories of 250 – 300 words with professional mechanics and structures, with difficult vocabulary about political and economic changes, and stories about people’s lives • Understand and listen to description of important events, description of businesses and people describe working in a movie • Talk about historical events

English Learning Objectives • Level 9 (Advanced) On the completion of this level students shall be able to: • Understand following chapters of the referred book “Understanding and Using English Grammar” writer: Betty SchrampferAzar commonly known as “Azar Blue” • Chapter 12 (noun clause) • Chapter 13 (adjective clause) • Chapter 14 & 15 (gerunds and infinitives) • Chapter 17 & 18 (adverb clause) • Write short and long reports • Read short stories and newspaper and present the story to the class • Listen to TOEFL/IELTS listening practices • Present presentations, debates

ICDL Learning Objectives • Module 1- Concept of Information and Communication Technology (20 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Understand what hardware is, know about factors that affect computer performance and know about peripheral devices. • Understand what software is and give examples of common applications software and operating system software. • Understand how information networks are used within computing, and be aware of the different options to connect to the Internet. • Understand what Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is and give examples of its practical applications in everyday life. • Understand health and safety and environmental issues in relation to using computers.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 2 – Using the Computer and Managing Files (20hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Use the main features of the operating system including adjusting the main Computer settings and using built-in help features. • Operate effectively around the computer desktop and work effectively in a Graphical user environment. • Know about the main concepts of file management and be able to efficiently Organize files and folders so that they are easy to identify and find. • Use utility software to compress and extract large files and use anti-virus Software to protect against computer viruses. • Demonstrate the ability to use simple text editing and print tools available Within the operating system.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 3 – Word Processing (20 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Work with documents and save them in different file formats. • Choose built-in options such as the Help function to enhance productivity. • Create and edit small-sized word processing documents that will be ready to share and distribute. • Apply different formats to documents to enhance them before distribution and recognize good practice in choosing the appropriate formatting options. • Insert tables, images and drawn objects into documents. • Prepare documents for mail merge operations. • Adjust document page settings and check and correct spelling before finally printing documents.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 4 – Spreadsheets (25 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Work with spreadsheets and save them in different file formats. • Choose built-in options such as the Help function within the application to enhance productivity. • Enter data into cells and use good practice in creating lists. Select, sort and copy, move and delete data. • Edit rows and columns in a worksheet. Copy, move, delete and appropriately rename worksheets. • Create mathematical and logical formulas using standard spreadsheet functions. Use good practice in formula creation and recognize error values in formulas.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 5 – Using Databases (30 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Understand what a database is and how it is organized and operated. • Create a simple database and view the database content in various modes. • Create a table, define and modify fields and their properties; enter and edit data in a table. • Sort and filter a table or form; create, modify and run queries to retrieve specific information from a database. • Understand what a form is and create a form to enter, modify and delete records and data in records. • Create routine reports and prepare outputs ready for distribution.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 6 – Presentation (15 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Work with presentations and save them in different file formats. • Choose built-in options such as the Help function within the application to enhance productivity. • Understand different presentation views and when to use them, choose different slide layouts and designs. • Enter, edit and format text in presentations. Recognize good practice in applying unique titles to slides. • Choose, create and format charts to communicate information meaningfully. • Insert and edit pictures, images and drawn objects. • Apply animation and transition effects to presentations and check and correct presentation content before finally printing and giving presentations.

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… • Module 7 – Web Browsing and Communication (15 hrs) On the completion of this module students shall be able to: • Understand what the Internet is and common terms associated with it. Be aware of some security considerations when using the Internet. • Accomplish everyday web browsing tasks including changing browser settings. • Search for online information using Internet search engines and complete and submit web-based forms. • Save web pages and download files from the web. Copy web content into a document

ICDL Learning Objectives cont… Module 7 – Section 2, Communication The second section, Communication, requires the candidate to understand some of the concepts of electronic mail (e-mail) and know about other communication options. The candidate shall be able to: • Understand what e-mail is and know some advantages and disadvantages of its use. Be aware of other communication options. • Be aware of network etiquette and security considerations when using e-mail. • Create, spell check and send e-mail. Reply to and forward e-mail, handle file attachments and print an e-mail. • Be aware of ways to enhance productivity when working with e-mail software. Organize and manage e-mail.

E-Learning Course Learning Objectives On the completion of this course students shall be able to: • Understand what e-learning is and know it advantages • Understand what Collaborative education is, Understand Web 2.0 and Web 2.0 tools, its implication on education • Understand different categories, descriptions and uses of web 2.0 tools such as collaborative Learning Tools, content sharing, Organizers, Social networks, Wikis, Forums etc. • Understand Different Web resources related to Web 2.0 Categories • Understand what course management systems are

E-Learning Course Learning Objectives cont… • Understand what Moodle is • Know basics of Moodle 9.0 • Gain Moodle skills for teaching such as Course Administration, Course Building resources and activities, and Course teaching • Use Moodle tools such as Assignments , feedback, forum, quizzes, workshops etc.

  31. Our Requirements • Participant must be a current university student or faculty member. • Participant must adjust with the class timing and adopt changes in the class timing if necessary. • Participant once enrolled must complete their courses. Failure to complete the course will be reported to the concerned faculty. • Participant must score 70% to move forward to the next level. • Participant’s enrollment will be terminated if he/she fails to complete 95% attendance and/or make 3 consecutive absences.
