  5. Where to Begin? • Take a look at your data • Inventory data sets • Prioritize data sets • Look at examples • collect metadata at varying levels of detail • examining how other agencies have documented their data holdings may provide insight into the most appropriate strategy for your agency

Where to Begin? • Determine what to do with the metadata • bundle with the data • print a catalog • setup a in-house electronic data warehouse • contribute to an established NSDI Clearinghouse • Metadata maintenance schedule • agency may choose to review its metadata periodically to determine if it warrants update
