The Medici Pros Cons • Bribery – Pope Giovanni bribed his way to become pope (pope Leo X) • They were getting to the top in society from bribery corruption and • They black mailed people. • Violence- they were legendary for murder; Alessandro Medici was assassinated by a cousin • Those who survived the Medici met with “unfortunate accidents” shortly after. • Cosimo came to power by reigning the duke. • They fought their way to power. • They brought economy development • They gave money to build hospitals, churches and libraries. • Artists ( Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli….) inventors, architecture wouldn't have happened if it wasn’t for them. They helped them get started off. • They introduced new popular method called taxation. • They helped make their city one of the most powerful state in Italy. • They were the first bankers • They gave jobs to people who didn’t have any. In my opinion the Medici family where, good because they brought power and money to Italy. They also helped artists inventors and architects fulfill their dreams. They were bad because they were violent and they fought their way to power. This is not the right way to get power but it was the way the Medici's did it which in my opinion is wrong. I think they were both good and bad but mainly good because most of the things they did helped make Italy a better place.
