  4. ASA Long Term Plan • Section 1 – Learn to Swim • More Local Public Service Agreements • Access to Nat. Curr. Training Programme • Teachers necessary skills to deliver quality experience in relation to LTAD • Additional teachers required • Using Nat. Plan for Teaching of Swimming (NPTS) • 240 ASA Swim21 accredited teaching club • Attendance of CPD events • Each Region to have Schools Swimming Forum • Each Region to have minimum of 3 designated presenters able to deliver disability elements

OX&NB Learn to Swim Objectives • Xx Swim21 teaching clubs by 2009 • All Learn to Swim programs linked to clubs Clubs/coaches to develop contacts with teachers • Coaches regularly attend levels 9+ • Manage influx of swimmers better • Encourage ASA membership as early as possible • Make swimmers competitive

How to achieve • SDOs to support all clubs obtaining Swim21 • SDOs to establish initial contacts lesson programs, teachers and clubs • Agree a schedule of visits and approach to levels 9+ • Organise competitive clinics/event/crash courses run by club (stroke badges, competitive start awards, etc.) • Encourage ASA membership as early as possible (ASA to make process easier)

ASA Long Term Plan • Section 2 – Lifelong Participation • Swimming an element of Sure Start • Partner in Local Exercise Action Pilots (Leap) • Provide easy access to Swim21 clubs (links) • Set up Schools Sports Partnerships • County Sports Partnerships with network of Swim21 clubs • Specialist Sports Colleges associated with swimming • Increase registered Masters Swimmers

  8. OX&NB Lifelong Objectives • Provide easy access to Swim21 clubs (links) • Establish ongoing Schools Sports Partnership contacts • County Sports Partnerships network of Swim21 clubs • Specialist Sports Colleges associated with swimming • Encourage clubs to host Masters Swimmers

How to achieve • SDOs to build and maintain contacts with Schools and Sports Partnerships • SDOs develop action plans for clubs involving them in Schools in their area. • Clubs to develop special contacts with Specialist Sports Colleges • County to develop Best Practice case how clubs could liaise within certain areas. (see LTAD) • County Masters coordinator to develop a plan with clubs how to expand

ASA Long Term Plan • Section 3 – Athlete Development (1) • 800 Swim21 clubs • 72 Performance clubs • 240 Teaching clubs • County Sports Partnerships Swim 21 development programmes • University WC endorsed swimming programmes • Networks of Swim21 clubs • LA to enable swimmers to easily access levels of training and water time • Provide all inclusive talent and coaches education to prepare for WC programmes

ASA Long Term Plan • Section 3 – Athlete Development (2) • Number of Local Swim Development Academies • Partnership Talent and Identification camps • Multi regional camps • CPD opportunities for coaches at Local Academy • Counties working to National Competition Framework • A classification team in each region • ITC Swimming Official in each region • Level One and Two Team Managers • Clubs with 48 hours water time for top squad • Clubs with at least 50 swimmers training 20-24 hrs per week • Full time coaches in Performance and Competitive Clubs

How to achieve • Support COSC in achieving Performance level • Perform GAP analysis on pool time needed and provided by club • Develop plan how to close the gap • Determine with Region format for County champs • Set number of Team Managers needed and ask SDOs to work with clubs achieving these numbers • Support Competitive clubs in finding funds to sponsor full time coaches • Set up club co-operation for 3 areas achieving ensuring more swimmers achieve National level in line with LTAD guidelines (see Section 4)

  14. ASA Long Term Plan • Section 4 – Excellence • All swimmers with ability to achieve highest level will receive appropriate support • Coaches with skills, knowledge and ability will receive appropriate support to develop their potential

  15. OX&NB Excellence Objectives • 3 Swim21 performance clubs • Access to 20-24 hours pool time • Agree “Best practice” pathway from Teaching to Performance for individual swimmers across clubs

How to achieve • Through Sports Partnership and SDO actively support club not yet accredited • Open discussions about Thame and Didcot, as these non-competitive clubs provide lessons • Ultimately, should we exclude clubs refusing to become Swim21 accredited from membership? • What to do about Oxford and Brookes University swim teams?
