  1. Binder Success Policy & Procedure Helpful Hints to Make the Binder Work for You!

  2. What the school will provide: • Binder • Student policy handbook, school map and bell schedule included. • Dividers • Enough for each period labeled 1-8 • Sheet protector • Pencil pouch

  3. What the teacher will provide: Three-hole-punched copies, worksheets, etc. Regular checks of your binder to be sure it is neat and organized. 10% of your grade, based on your binder use.

  4. What YOU, the students will provide: Lined paper appropriate for each class. Pens, pencils, and other materials appropriate for each class. Desire to succeed.

  5. Student Responsibilities Bring the binder to every class every day. Backpacks, bags, and purses will NOT be allowed in class. Use pencil pouch for writing utensils and other necessary class items.

  6. Student Responsibilities If you lose the school-provided binder or it breaks, you will need to replace it on your own. You can provide your own binder if you don’t want to use the school binder, but you must have and use a binder.

  7. Helpful Hints You will be able to personalize your binder with school appropriate items in the page protector. Sheet protectors are not pockets – one layer only. Avoid spiral notebooks. All papers need to have complete headings and be hole-punched.

  8. More Helpful Hints Put all paperwork in the divider section for your class immediately, NOT in the sheet protector in the front. Order papers from oldest to most recent, with assignment log on top.

  9. Even More Helpful Hints At lunch, put your binder in your locker or carry it. You can carry your binder to school in your backpack, but the backpack must be kept in your locker. Please take care of your binder. It is intended to last all year.

  10. West Lake Jr. High Heading • In the upper right-hand corner always write: • First and Last Name • Class ( Science, English, Math, Reading) • Period (1-8) • Date ( 8/22/11)

  11. Consequences • Not having a binder might lead to the following: • Low grades • Calls home • Intervention • Office referrals • ISS or Home Suspension

  12. Remember: • "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit"Aristotle • Use your binders to help you succeed.
