  2. Setting • The setting of the book is in Forest Glen, California. Forest Glen is the city where foster home # 12 is for Whitney. One of the things Whitney does not know about is trees. The story would be different because Forest Glen is where all the action happens.

  3. Characters

  4. Conflict the conflict is man vs. society. A student at Whitney’s schools dad is trying to cut down the forest. Because they are planning to cut down the trees Whitney is protesting. She climbed up the biggest tree and stayed there until they promised not to cut down the trees.

  5. Summary of Plot • At the beginning of the book Whitney does not care about anyone or thing except herself. The next foster home she is going to is filled with trees , and she has no idea about them. When she went to school her teacher told her about them. After learning about them Whitney loved trees. The end is a surprise!

  6. Theme • People can change. • Text Evidence 1: At first Whitney didn’t care about anything • Text Evidence 2:learned about trees and loved them • Text Evidence 3: at the end was thoughtful and saved the forest forever.

  7. Point of View The point of view was written in first person. The story explains Whitney’s life, thoughts, and feelings. The way the story is written is to show what it is like to be Whitney.

  8. Symbolism • The symbolism used in the book is that the trees represent life , money, and jobs.

  9. Recommendation • I would recommend this book. The book is fantastic. The book is written to show how Whitney changed and her life involved . Really well written.
