M = Mountains and Basins • Location: Western most region • Climate: Highest and driest • Lack of water its most important feature • Part of the Rocky Mountains • Guadalupe Peak is the highest mountain in TX (8,749 ft.) • Economics: Cotton • People: 2/3 of people live in El Paso • Strong ties to Mexico • Major Cities: El Paso, Fort Davis

G = Great Plains • Location: Northwest • Higher in elevation than in the East but not as high as the Mountains and Basins • Climate: dry with cool summers, cold winters • Droughts are a problem so irrigation is a must • Looks like the “Old West” • Economics: Cotton & Wheat • Major Cities: Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland

N = North Central Plains • Location: West of the Coastal Plains • Higher in elevation than Coastal Plains • Climate: moist, cold in winter, hot in summer • Less rainfall than Coastal Plains but more than G & M • People: Small population; rural • Economics: Cattle Ranches & Farming • Major Cities: Fort Worth, Abilene, San Angelo
