  8. Similar to: • Mat 23:37“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! “

  9. כּבודKabod • Literally ‘weight’. Glory, honour, riches, dire, massive • Used of God’s glory as displayed by creation • Also used of God’s manifest presence- seen as light, a cloud, fire, flesh (Jesus) • Called the ‘shekinah’ from mishkan- tabernacle- God tabernacles with us!

  10. God’s Glory in the Old Testament • Requested by Moses (Ex 33:12-23) • Shining from Moses’ face (Ex 34:29-35)

  11. God’s Glory in the Old Testament • Fills tabernacle:“Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. • (Exo 40:34-38)

  12. God’s Glory in the Old Testament • Leaves tabernacle because of Eli’s son’s sin (1Sam 4:21-22). ‘Ichabod’- glory departed. Ark stolen. Shiloh becomes desolate. • David dances when ark returns to Jerusalem- return of God’s presence, glory (2Sam 6:16)

  14. God’s Glory in the New Testament • Holy Spirit rests, overshadows Mary-just like at creation (Luke 1:35) • Glory of God shines when angels visit shepherds (Luke 2:9) • Holy Spirit descends like a dove and rests on Jesus resulting in the birthing of His ministry (John 1:32-34)

  15. God’s Glory in the New Testament • Jesus is God’s glory in the flesh appearing to men and he ‘tabernacles’ among them (John 1:14) • Jesus is transfigured and shines with glory (Matt 17:1-2) • The church is God’s temple where His Spirit dwells (1Cor 3:16)

  16. God’s Glory in the New Testament • We have access to glory that far surpasses what Moses experienced and will not fade (2Cor 3:7-18, 2Cor 4:6) • We are commanded to be filled (Eph 5:18)
