WHAT IS RESTRUCTURING?Significant redirection: a change of governance …. • After the 5th calculation when a school has not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) • Planning: a one year process. • Implementation: one or more years as needed to fully implement the plan. Title I funds can continue on, with the specific set-asides in place. District Responsibilities To develop a plan within 6 months of notification of the school’s status on behalf of the school to be implemented if the school doesn’t make AYP.

RESTRUCTURING ACTIONS broadly described A district must pick one or more of these: • Reopen as a charter school. • Replace all or most of the staff, which may include the principal. • Enter into a contract with an entity. • Implement any other major restructuring of the school’s governance. • State takeover (not an option a district can select in IL)

QUICK TIPS ON THE E-PLAN • Illinois e-Plans will populate state assessment data and school/district information automatically. • To complete the e-Plan, you’ll check the restructuring options and use text boxes to describe the actions to be taken in the school. • Finally, you’ll indicate the board approval data.

DISTRICT STAFF AND ISBE CONSULTATION Once the restructuring plan has been submitted, ISBE will consult with district staff…you are welcome to contact us prior to that time, as well, to talk through your ideas. Inclusion of these topics in the restructuring plan description is optional: Option allowed in the law Reasons for section Corrective actions (or other district actions leading to the restructuring actions) State assessment data Timeline for implementation
