    Slide 1:MAGIC DEICERS

Slide 2:SAVES MONEY, TIME AND LABOR: Rock salt applications are reduced by 30% to 50%, and the need for sand in most circumstances is virtually eliminated. WORKING TEMPERATURE OF –35F: Regular rock salt is ineffective below 18F. This is a net 53 degree gain in working temperature, similar to calcium chloride, without the adverse effects. NON-CORROSIVE: Unlike plain rock salt or calcium chloride independent test show Magic Salt to be completely non-corrosive. It will not damage steel doors, thresholds, equipment, carpets, flooring or concrete. In fact, it neutralizes rust! ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: Liquid Magic-0 is completely biodegradable. Magic Salt releases far less chlorides into the environment than either plain rock salt or calcium chloride. Both are safe around vegetation, people and equipment. ECONOMICALLY SUPERIOR: Because it works better and lasts longer, less Magic Salt is required to displace an equal amount of ice or snow than with any other ice-melter….at any price. Because of its residual effect, snow and ice will not bond to the pavement. Black ice is virtually eliminated.

    FEATURES & BENEFITS

Slide 3: Our liquid MAGIC-0(TM) is a proprietary formula of magnesium chloride combined with an agricultural by-product of the distilling process (i.e. grain and/or sugar based) and is protected under U.S. patent #4,676,918. No other liquid ice melter can make this claim. With a simple motorized pump and tank system, Liquid Magic-0(TM) is easily applied to bulk rock salt stockpiles, (8 gallons per ton) to transform this corrosive, potentially destructive and inefficient material into MAGIC SALT(TM): a highly effective ice melting product which is non-corrosive, safe for concrete and brick and environmentally friendly. Liquid Magic-0(TM) can be applied directly to paved surfaces, in advance of a storm. Ice and snow will not bond. Black ice is eliminated.

Slide 4: Pre-Treating Stockpiles (rock salt or salt/sand or all sand) Application Rates: Between 8 gallons/ton for all rock salt and up to 10 gallons/tons for all sand stockpiles. Rates will vary for mixed stockpiles depending on the sand/salt ratio. General Procedures: We bring our tank and spray unit to your stockpile. You will provide a loader and operator to turn the stockpile as the liquid Magic-0 is being applied. This is required to ensure uniform treatment of the entire stockpile. Application Time: Estimated 30 minutes for a 25 ton pile (typical tri-axle truckload), start to finish.

    Application Methods

Slide 5: ANTI-ICING: Liquid Magic-0 is used extensively on the New York State Thruway system and the Garden State Parkway (New Jersey) as an anti-icing agent. Liquid is applied using a spray tank system with a spray bar. There are two types of spray patterns which are used, depending on traffic flow and desired effect. When correctly applied prior to the snow or ice storm event, liquid Magic-0 prevent snow and ice from bonding to the pavement. Plowing removes all packed snow and ice. Black ice cannot form, as long as there is no major run off. Magic-0 will not harm vehicles or any type of pavement and is environmentally much friendlier than traditional methods and materials. These significant benefits must be considered only in terms of the substantial commitment to training crews, use of precise temperature monitoring equipment and careful application.

Slide 6:DEICING: Ordinary rock salt is transformed when treated with liquid Magic-0. Hard pack and bonded ice are quickly eliminated from paved surfaces. Even though rock salt eventually dissolves in the melting process, the liquid Magic-0 remains in the pavement surface and will prevent black ice from forming. This will continue until it is diluted by run-off or precipitation. The treatment process is accomplished by one of two methods.

When spraying Magic Salt® treated brines onto the road surface during an anti-icing application, pavement friction is about the same as wet pavement from a rain event.

Slide 12:Corrosion Comparison % Corrosion versus NaCL

Magic Salt® has the lowest corrosion rating of any de-icer on the market. When mixed 50% with a Magnesium Chloride it has a corrosion value less than that of distilled water.

Deicer Advisory Guidelines The Importance of Considering the Phosphorus Content of Deicers in the Protection of Drinking Water Supplies in the NYC Watershed   April 2, 2002 ADVISORY GUIDELINES   At the outset, we stress that human safety is the primary goal of roadway deicing and winter-time highway maintenance. In order to balance safety and public health, the following guidelines are presented as advice to municipal, county, and state entities and are not meant to interfere with the primary duty to protect human life and safety. These guidelines are effective immediately.   1. Total Phosphorus Guidance: Winter Road Maintenance Deicers:   Endorsed: deicer products that contain 60 parts per million total phosphorus (ppm) or less;   Discouraged: deicer products that contain more than 100 ppm total phosphorus (particularly in Delaware, Putnam, and Westchester Counties);   Avoid: any deicer that contains greater than 250 ppm total phosphorus should not be used or applied within the Watershed.1   2. Reducing the use of sand as a treatment material should be a primary goal of environmentally responsible road maintenance because sand usage is responsible for much of the phosphorus introduced into the reservoirs from winter road maintenance. The use of sand also degrades aquatic habitat in streams, wetlands and rivers. The data presented in Table 1 were employed to arrive at these guideline values. A description of how these data were used is available from DEP by contacting Charles Cutietta-Olson at (914)773-4475 or olsonc@water.dep.nyc.ny.us. Table 1. Phosphorus Concentration in Deicers
