  2. Not Your Average Protestor • Legally Allowed to Protest • Trained for specific site • Surveillance • Know how to get in and out of site • Dress alike, covered faces • Audio/Video recording devices

  3. During Protest • Live Feed/Posts to website during protest • Timeline of events • Photos • Arrest Info • Jail/Bail information specific to area • Want employee/police confrontation and will incite

  4. Participants • No locals or very few • Criminal history • Assault on police officer • Resisting arrest • Rioting • Claim to be Anarchist’s • Do not want to be arrested • Feel and verbally state they are legal observers

  5. Common Groups • Appalachia Resist • Earth First • Earth Liberation • RAMPS • Monitor their websites

  6. Tactics • Monopod -30ft high • 5 minutes to deploy • Tied off to trucks, tanks, gates, fencing, etc. • Someone climbs to top And waits….

  7. Tactics • Sleeping Dragon • PVC Pipe or Casing • Tar Babies • Feces • Cement • Chicken Blood

  8. What to Expect • Swarm site (could be up to 100+ people) • Create distractions for employees • Put their own locks on gates • Throw truck keys into woods or grass • Police liaison(s)

What to Expect • Use of monopod and/or sleeping dragon or other common protest devices • Devices on monopod to take still photos and live feed video of entire site to website • Video/Audio recording • Constant questioning in your face • Create a huge scene, it’s all about the theatrics!! • News Media

How to Handle • Do not get into a physical altercation • Call the local authorities immediately • Keep a cheap digital camera on each well site and take pictures of everything • Keep orange spray paint readily available and mark protestors as they run • Start tallying up how much money you are losing because operations are shut down

  11. GreenHunter Water Injection Well Site • February 18th 2013 • 105 protestors all dressed alike with covered faces swarmed the site, setup monopod, and shut down operations for half a day Protestors on site

  13. Recourse • Every state/county law is different • Most laws do not have any teeth, protestors know how far they can push it • Anything used on part of the company for documentation of the incident will be taken by the police (cell phone cameras) • Document all property/monetary losses

  14. Be Vigilant!! • Emergency Preparedness Plan • Be vigilant of suspicious activities, document license plates, vehicles, people who don’t belong • Alert any close-by landowners to be vigilant for suspicious activities • Communication between companies
