  2. Connecticut Public Act 11-232Intent:The Safe School Climate Plan represents a comprehensive approach to promoting a positive, supportive school climate in which bullying, harassment and discrimination are not tolerated by students or school employees.

Legal Requirements Clearly described by PA 11-232 • The Bloomfield Board of Education must adopt a Safe School Climate Plan by January 2012 • The plan must integrate all elements of the legislation: • Each school must have a designated safe school climate specialist and safe school climate committee; • School employees who witness acts of bullying or receive reports of bullying must notify the safe school climate specialist or another school administrator; • Each school must have a prevention and intervention strategy; • Each school must notify parents or guardians of all students involved in a verified act of bullying no later than 48 hours after completion of an investigation; • Establish a procedure for each school to document and maintain records relating to reports and investigations of bullying; • Outline safety support plans for students against whom bullying was directed to protect against more bullying.

  4. Adoption Process • First Reading by Board of Ed December 13, 2011 • Provide Draft Plan to State by January 1 • Convene Policy Committee in January • Review the Draft Safe School Climate Plan • Edit as necessary • Present to the Board of Education for Adoption • Second Reading: January 2012
