Rationale for Human System Integration and Risk Management • JSC Space Life Sciences utilizes a human-centered, risk management approach • to accomplish our Human System objectives in support of Human Space Flight • to prevent and/or mitigate human health and performance risks • Focused on • Integration of all elements of the human system into one comprehensive set of activities • Implementation of a common approach to managing all human system risks • Educating the larger community re: Human Health and Performance and its relationship to Human Space Flight • Essential Aspects: • Capture human health and performance information and data • Identify risks that require further research and technology development • Provide clear risk definition with supporting evidence base • Provide a consistent approach to understand knowledge and technology gaps • Establish standards that address specific human health and performance targets • Assess and ultimately mitigate risks against standards • Process is foundational for Human Health and Performance support to Human Space Flight i.e., requirements, research, technology and countermeasure development, spacecraft and system assessments, provision of appropriate operations capabilities (ground-based and in-flight)
