  2. What is stress? • A force that acts on rock to change its shape or volume.

  11. Why do faults occur along plate boundaries? • The forces of plate motion push or pull the crust so much that the rocks break. • Pull apart = Divergent Boundary = Tension Forces • Push together = Convergent Boundary = Compression Forces • Slide past = Transform Boundary = Shearing Forces
