  1. Garden Rooms Offices

  2. Insulated Garden Rooms During the long summer months or during the winter, you may think about how can I make your garden room more comfortable. One of the best ways to help keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer is to add insulation to it. A shrewd investment. So consider the following questions to help you decide. Please note that our Royal and Regent range of buildings are fully insulated as standard. Likewise, the Platinum Odiham and Platinum Fleet buildings are also insulated.

  3. Should I Choose An Insulated Office In The UK? The garden office or room is normally used through the warmer months and then, often, is used as a storage place throughout the winter. Well, how about being able to use it all year round? With just a little added investment and then deciding on an insulated garden room, you can use this wonderful building all year round. Your children can use it as their own with their computer games, music or chilling with their friends and will be out from under your feet. It can make a great ‘man cave’ or ‘she den’ for Mum or Dad for their own hobbies or pastimes. Or an insulated garden office could be used as a home mini-factory for your business and if so, the cost would be tax deductible which is a ‘win-win’ for you.

  4. Can I Insulate My Garden Room After Delivery? If you have semi-reasonable DIY skills then it’s reasonably easy to fully insulate a garden or sectional buildings yourself. You would need to buy insulation (most common;y fibreglass), purpose-made material or polystyrene and then cut this to size and fit it in internally between the framework. To stop the fibreglass or insulation from moving before you fix the inner skin it is best to tack it into place. You have several types of material which you can use for the inner skin, such as hardboard (which you can get with an attractive veneer on it), plywood or possibly T&G boarding. These are all OK for the walls but it can be a bit tricky with the roof as gravity tries to work against you making the job rather fiddly. Ideally, you will get someone to help who can hold the roof panels in place whilst you screw them into place. When completed I recommend using some cover strips over the joins to get a neat finish.

  5. Are There Any Other Options For Me? All our Platinum garden rooms and offices can be insulated by the factory so when they are delivered the panels have the insulation built in. This will enable your new garden building to be able to be used all year round – a very wise investment. The insulation used is normally a quality product like Kingspan. This is quite a solid material and has a foil backing to help control the temperature in your new building. You have a choice of internal lining so you can choose what is best for you. Upon completion, the installers will add internal trims to give the building a lovely finish.

  6. Will These Insulated Garden Rooms Be Warm In The Winter? By insulating your garden building either through the service offered by the factory or by doing it yourself then the building should be nearly as warm as inside your house. You would need some form of heating during the cooler parts of the year and we would recommend an electric heater for this. Some advice you may get is to use a Calor Gas heater but that is the wrong guidance. Besides the flammability of it, these heaters produce a lot of moisture and would make your new office damp. NOT a good idea. Be very wary of doing that.

  7. Besides keeping your new garden house (or man cave or she room) warm in the winter it will help to keep it cooler in the summer. And this is something which not many people think about. And to be honest I never used to think about that but on our show site we had a normal uninsulated building next to an insulated one and I was checking them over. When I went from the uninsulated to the insulated one I could not believe the temperature difference. I had to go back into the uninsulated one to check, so well worth doing so it would be an intelligent decision to add the insulation.

  8. How Much Will It Cost To Insulate My New Garden Room? All of our Platinum product pages have links to the prices of the basic buildings and on the order form, you will see the insulation cost for that particular model. There is even an option to insulate the floor, on some buildings, for even better protection from the elements. One of the questions is whether you can afford it. Well, if you would like to use your new Garden Building all year round then it’s worth working out what this all-year-round use is worth to you. It will be a great asset to be able to have an all-year-round office or hobby room. It also gives you a little piece of calm away from our mad world. Or call us directly and we will be glad to provide a no obligation personal quote for you.

  9. We are, of course, very happy to supply you with a firm quote to meet your needs. What is the cheapest way to build an insulated garden room? The cheapest way to build an insulated garden room is to use low-cost materials and DIY construction methods. One common approach is to use timber framing with insulation panels made from materials such as polystyrene or mineral wool. Another option is to use SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) which are prefabricated panels that have insulation sandwiched between two layers of wood.

  10. 1st Choice offers a range of garden rooms which are delivered with insulation already in place and this will always be the best option. It can be pricey but you would then know you are getting the very best garden room. Using recycled or reclaimed materials for the walls, floor, and roof can also help keep costs down. However, it’s important to note that the cheapest option may not be the most durable or long-lasting, so it’s essential to weigh the cost savings against the long-term value and benefits of the garden room.

  11. What is the most popular size for a garden office? The most popular size for a garden office is around 3 metres by 4 metres (12 square metres) or smaller. This size is typically suitable for a comfortable workspace for one or two people, with enough room for a desk, storage, and potentially a seating area. However, the size of a garden office can vary depending on individual needs and budget, and larger sizes are available for those who require more space. It’s important to consider factors such as planning permission, budget, and intended use when choosing the size of a garden office.

  12. Can I build the garden room myself? It is possible to assemble the smaller garden rooms if someone can help you move the panels around whilst you screw them together. However, it is very important that you take your time and do the job correctly. This is vitally important with the fixing of the roof and the felting of it. If you get it wrong water may get onto your building and damage your possessions. Not a good idea. However, as standard, 1st Choice includes free installation of the building which is a far better idea. This saves you a lot of hard work and ensures the building is built correctly which will help its long life.
