What is Net Pay? Definition and Cutoffs A definition of net, netpay and cutoffs is essential in any discussion about net, netpay or cutsoffs. This will help to unify the approaches of different disciplines, which can be a common source of cutoff confusion. This author's opinion: Definition of Netpay: Netpay's purpose is to identify intervals that contain fluids that contribute to production over the life of the field. Fluids that move during production or are subject to a change of saturation or pressure will contribute a small but finite amount to production. Cutoffs should not be used if fluid movement is the primary criteria. This means that saturation and porosity are required to indicate which phase will move. Cutoffs are unnecessary if permeability has not been accurately averaged in dynamic and reservoir static models to within a half log cycle. Cutoffs are often responsible for large errors in simulation. To blank out large volumes, usually greater than 50% GRV, of rock is considered zero storage, zeropermeability. This is because it is more difficult to quantify the bulk volume hydrocarbon and their permeability. This is particularly true for low-permeability dry gas reservoirs.
