  2. After someone is arrested for a crime, they are taken to the jail for "processing". At the jail, you will be booked and assigned a bail amount. This process can usually take 1 to 8 hours, depending on the workload of the jail staff and how busy it is at that time. After that, your bail will be set according by the offense they committed as well as priors on file. During the booking process, an inmate can call a friend or family member. This is your best chance to collect information which will be important once bail is posted. Write down all of the details they share with you, including their full name, jail they are held in and their booking number.
