    4. What is Momentum Chippewa Valley? Momentum Chippewa Valley is a regional economic development organization serving Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire and Pepin counties. Momentum Chippewa Valley (MCV) focuses efforts in five areas.

MCV Mission The mission of Momentum Chippewa Valley is to develop cooperative public and private partnerships among the communities in the Chippewa Valley that will sustain and expand upon regional economic development efforts. Momentum Chippewa Valley brings together industry, professionals, retailers, services, educators, cities and counties to grow and enhance the Chippewa Valley. It is the only organization that unites all these entities within the four counties – Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin – that comprise the Chippewa Valley.

MCV Organizational Structure 40-Member Executive Committee -- designated representatives from the following categories: City, IDC, County, Chamber of Commerce, Educational Institution, Business. President position rotates among three counties. Board of Directors - consists of entire membership

Main Funding Sources Eau Claire, Chippewa, Pepin and Dunn County governments Economic Development Corporations in three counties Chambers of Commerce in three counties Private Business Partners–120 members City assessment of 43 cents per residence for Cities of Eau Claire, Durand, Menominee, Chippewa Falls, Augusta, Altoona, Stanley

    10. MCV – Turning Adversity into Opportunity MCV grew out of adversity. Amid rumors in the late 1980s that the Uniroyal Plant in Eau Claire was closing, the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce assembled business, government and educational leaders from around the Chippewa Valley.

    11. MCV – Turning Adversity into Opportunity Leaders from the three counties met regularly to discuss regional economic development issues. Momentum 21 was born. When the Uniroyal plant eventually closed in 1991, 1,300 jobs were lost. Momentum 21 stepped in with a regional approach to rebuild the economy impacted by the closure.

Chippewa Valley Rally 10th Annual Rally – January 28-29, 2004 More than 100 constituents from the Chippewa Valley spend two days in Madison with State Legislators They promote and discuss issues important to the Chippewa Valley (2003 issues: health care and inter-city passenger rail service)

    15. Chippewa Valley Inter-City Passenger Rail Service The Rail Committee seeks the development and implementation of passenger rail service through the CV by linking the metro Twin Cities and Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago route as defined by the Wisconsin State Rail Plan, Alternative 3

    16. Education & Workforce Committee Career Valley – promotes employment opportunities in CV among more than 3,500 students in grades 8-12 Partnering to 2005 Initiatives – promote workforce recruitment, training and other initiatives

    19. Marketing Lessons Tell the story well and often – improved web page, First Monday, Manufacturer’s Directory, Technology map – we provide many information sources to our constituents to use in their work. Keep people engaged – reason for increasing size of Executive Committee

    20. Marketing Lessons Be Where Your Constituents Are – rotate meetings to various counties, regular presence at public events in the member counties. Communicate All the Time – you can’t tell the story often enough
