  3. Cloud Computing for Dummies Let’s start right at the beginning. First and foremost, what is cloud computing? And why is it such a big deal? In simple terms, cloud computing refers to a network of servers that operate globally via the internet. It is through these servers that computing services like storage, software, analytics, databases, networking etc. are carried out. For example, once upon a time, we used to use floppy disks, CDs and more recently pen drives to store data. Today, instead of having a physical drive we upload our data onto the cloud like a Google Drive, One Drive, iCloud e. Here, the service offered is data storage, however there are many more services that the cloud offers. Cloud platforms like Azure, AWS and GCP offer a host of services to individuals and businesses. Then according to their requirements, businesses rent various services without having to own them. This is like paying the monthly amount for more space on your cloud drive. There are 3 types of cloud environments that organizations can choose from - Public cloud - As the name suggests, the public cloud is open for all. The servers, networks, services etc. are shared among all users. An example of a public cloud is Microsoft Azure. Private cloud - With a private cloud, the services, servers and networks used are exclusive to one organization. Hybrid cloud - A hybrid cloud refers to a combination of an on-premises/private cloud and a public cloud.

  4. A Glimpse into the Cloud Industry Before diving into a career in cloud computing it might be a good idea to understand what the cloud industry looks like...so, let’s talk numbers! By 2028, the cloud market is estimated to reach $1.25 trillion. And that is just the beginning. With a growth rate of 19.1%, it is safe to say that a career in cloud computing is bound to bring you great results. Cloud infrastructure services generate around $178 billion in reve- nue every year according to Synergy. Cloud services The cloud is truly the future of the world. Every industry across the globe is moving to the cloud. Every piece of new tech is built on the cloud. Every aspiring graduate wants to get skilled in the cloud. Why? Because of the overwhelming number of opportunities opening every day for professionals skilled in cloud computing. Today, there are three major cloud platform players.w 4

  5. Amazon Web Services holds the biggest market share when it comes to cloud services. With its inception more than 10 years ago, AWS started with data storage services. Now along with Microsoft, GCP and other cloud service providers, these platforms provide a large buffet of services across numerous technologies like Software-as-a-Service.Platform-as-a-Service, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service. More than 94% of companies today utilize cloud services. This means that the need for specialized knowledge and skilled professionals is very high. Cloud jobs have ncreased by 42% between 2018 and 2021. To meet the needs of this worldwide phenomenon a very large workforce is required in almost every industry. This has created a very lucrative space for IT professionals today. 5

  6. Types of Cloud Computing Services Cloud services are like a buffet. Just as a buffet offers lots of options for people with different tastes, cloud service providers offer a large range of services for every company’s needs and requirements. These services can be broadly categorized into 3 main categories like a three-course meal with appetizers, main courses, and desserts! Infrastructure-as-a-service IaaS is like the appetizer. It offers a variety of virtualized computing resources such as servers, storage, and networking. With IaaS, users can build their own custom infrastructure on top of the cloud platform, selecting only the resources they need and paying only for what they use. Platform-as-a-service PaaS is like the main course, offering a platform for developing, testing, and deploying software applications. With PaaS, users can focus on building their applications without having to worry about underlying infrastructure management. Just as a main course can be customized with different toppings and sauces, PaaS can be customized with different programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Software-as-a-service SaaS is like the dessert section, offering a fully functional soft- ware application that is hosted and delivered over the internet. With SaaS, users can access the application via a web browser or mobile app without having to manage any underlying infrastructure or software updates. SaaS is like a sweet treat that satisfies the appetite without requiring any additional effort or preparation. Overall, cloud services offer a lot of options for businesses of all sizes, providing scalability, agility, and cost savings to those who partake in the feast. 6
