Soda lime is a chemical compound primarily used as a carbon dioxide absorbent in closed breathing environments, such as submarines, anesthesia circuits, and space capsules. The term "soda lime" is derived from its historical composition, which included sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), along with water (H2O). The combination of these compounds effectively absorbs CO2 by forming carbonates. However, contemporary formulations may vary and might not always include the original components.
