  2. OVIPAROUS • the most primitive mammals • they do not bear living babies • they lay eggs • babies feed on maternal milk • females do not have milk nipples • babies lick the milk on the female abdomen • Australia, New Guinea

  3. OVIPAROUS - PLATYPUS • half-water lifestyle • it inhabits the banks of smaller watercourses • they dig up burrows • they hunt his food in the water • they feed on invertebrates • females usually lay two eggs

  5. OVIPAROUS - ECHIDNA • a night mammal • it feeds on insects – ants, termites • it rakes up their nests with its strong claws • it picks up ants and termites with its long sticky tongue • females usually lay one egg

  8. OVIPAROUS • the male platypus and the echidna have a moving spur on the back leg, which is connected to venom glands • platypus´s venom causes swelling, pain and breathing difficulties • echidna´s venom is much weaker
