  1. A Brief History of Carriage Bolts and Their Origins. Carriage bolts have been around for centuries and have paved the way for the industry's evolution. Carriage bolts were originally used to attach horses to carriages in the early 1800s. These bolts were made of iron and were shaped like a horseshoe. The horseshoe-shaped bolts were designed to be easy to turn, so the trappings on the horse could be attached to a carriage. Of course, these bolts were easily forgotten about, and the horseshoe-shaped bolts were replaced by the modern-day carriage bolt, which is a hexagonal bolt with a round head. These bolts are still used to attach horses to carriages today and are still made of iron. Fasteners Manufacturers 1. What is a carriage bolt? A carriage bolt (also called coach bolt and round-head square-neck bolt)[1] is a form of bolt used to fasten metal to metal or, more commonly, wood to metal. Also known as a cup head bolt in Australia and New Zealand. 2. How they are made? A carriage bolt is a metal bolt that is used to fasten the body of a carriage to the chassis. The carriage bolt is a type of pin that can be driven into wood, metal, or concrete. The carriage bolt is typically formed with a head and a threaded shaft. The head is shaped like a small cone that fits into the hole in the head of the bolt. The bolt also has a nut that fits on the head to hold the cone in place. The nut is used to secure the head inside the hole. The threaded shaft of the bolt is then inserted into the hole and tightened with a wrench. The carriage bolt is made of a variety of metals including steel, brass, and bronze. Square Head Bolts and Nuts 3. How they are used Carriage bolts are used as a means of fastening pieces of wood to one another or to other pieces of wood. These bolts are usually made out of steel and are threaded at one end and have a round, rubber-coated tip. Their round, rubber- coated tips are used to prevent the bolt from slipping off of the wood it is being used on. These bolts are also used when fastening pieces of wood to a wall, a ceiling, or a floor.

  2. 4. Conclusion. A carriage bolt is a bolt with a head that is shaped like a horseshoe and a threaded shank, used to fasten wood to wood. The head can be either round or hexagonal. The head is usually made of steel, but is also commonly made of cast iron. The shank is typically made of steel or cast iron and is threaded with a square or hexagonal nut on the end. The nut is usually threaded to fit a bolt with a square or hexagonal head. The nut is used to secure the carriage bolt to the wood. The carriage bolts are commonly used in furniture construction, but can also be found on gates, door frames, and woodworking projects. Carriage bolts are also known as cabinet bolts, cabinet hinges, cabinet hinges, and cabinet fasteners.
