Harris Corporation • International communications equipment company focused on providing product, system, and service solutions for commercial and government customers. • Four operating divisions serve markets for Microwave, Broadcast, Secure Tactical Radio, and Government Communications Systems. • With more than 10,000 employees, including 5,000 engineers and scientists, Harris is a technology powerhouse.

  5. Harris History • Alfred & Charles G. Harris • 1895: Harris Automatic Press Company • 1957: Harris-Seybold merged with Intertype Corporation to form Harris-Intertype, decided to become a communications company. • 1957-59: Acquired Gates Radio of Quincy, Illinois (now Broadcast Division) and PRD Electronics of Brooklyn, New York, a producer of microwave test equipment

Harris History • 1967-80: Acquired Radiation Incorporated, space and military electronics in Florida, RF Communications of Rochester, NY and Farinon Corporation - microwave radios. • 1983: Sold its printing equipment business, and acquired Lanier Business Products, world’s largest independent supplier of office systems • 1999: Harris refocused all of its resources on the Global Communications Equipment market, sold its Semiconductor business –Intersil – and spun off Lanier Worldwide.

RF Communications • Leading supplier of secure voice and data communications products, systems and networks to military, government, and commercial organizations worldwide. • Currently fielding HF, VHF, UHF, and Multiband manpack radio systems, as well as VHF Handheld Radios. • UHF and Multiband Handheld Radios are in development.

  16. Mechanical/Fabrication • Learn Autodesk Inventor • Learn MasterCAM • Design & Build a preseason drivetrain • Design & Build a preseason mechanism • Review past years competitions for ideas

  17. Electrical/Pneumatics • Develop a preseason prototype board • Learn motor characteristics • Learn wiring diagram • Learn Pneumatics rules/regulations • Develop a sample pneumatics demonstration

  18. Programming • Learn C Programming Language • Understand last years sample code • Make modifications/improvements • Develop techniques for autonomous mode • Use the Robovation kit for practice

  19. Webpage • Learn Webpage criteria from FIRST • Develop a webpage theme around our team • Bring content to the webpage • Maintain and update the webpage • Maintain and update the forums

  20. Business/Marketing/Fundraising • Develop a team business plan/handbook • Come up with ideas to spread news about our team • Develop a mission statement • Maintain the budget • Implement fundraising for students & team

  21. Animation • Review Animation submission rules • Learn Autodesk 3DS • Develop a theme/idea for the submission • Begin creation of the submission

  22. Strategy/Drive/Rules • Review and learn the rules from last year • Decide on methods for strategy development • Learn what has worked well in the past (from other teams?) • Train drivers & human players in preason

  23. Photography/Videography • Record all meetings & team events through photo video & documents • Maintain a database of photos/videos etc • Work with webpage and marketing teams • Help in creation of awards submissions

  24. Spirit/Logo • Brainstorm Team Name/Logo • Make contacts for team shirts & buttons • Come up with ideas for team paraphernalia • Host fun team (& interteam) activities

  25. Awards • Review last years awards • Review Scholarships • Begin creating ideas for the submissions • Assign students to the submissions • Work with other subteams on the submissions • Chairman’s/Rookie All Star Award

  26. Break into Subteams & Give and Obtain Information • Find the current amount of knowledge for each subteam • Review last years information • Find out what subteam wants to learn/contribute • Signups!
