What Is A G-Sensor In A Dashcam? How Does It Work?

Car technology has taken giant strides such that in terms of safety, drivers and occupants have never felt this comfortable. In this modern era, high-end cars can achieve higher speeds, the main reason behind so many accidents. The magnitude of accidents has manufacturers concerned, leading to enhanced vehicle safety and lesser injuries. Safer seatbelts and airbag technology along with G sensors are some initiatives taken by manufacturers to ensure lesser accidents.

  1. Still, accidents occur. Among these, the G sensor has caught everyone’s attention. What is it? How does it work? What is a G sensor? It is known as a gravity sensor. It refers to an accelerometer that measures accurate acceleration on a dashcam known as G force. The device works by charting your location to an XYZ coordinate, or a 3-dimensional axis. X is the left/right (horizontal)

  2. change in motion. Y is the backward/forward (vertical) and Z is the up/down change in motion. Anytime there’s a change in direction, the dashcam detects it right away. The direction change can be triggered by a collision, forceful braking or movement while the car is stationary. Anytime the dashcam senses all this, it enters event mode and saves the footage 5 seconds before and 15 seconds after the event. This can vary from one brand to another. The saving of the footage 5 seconds before ensures the point of impact is recorded for further retrieval. The good thing with G sensors is that they can alter the time frame and sensitivity to suit your needs. How does a G-sensor in a dashcam work? The digital rear mirror locks immediately when the G sensor senses acceleration or sudden braking. It then stores the current file as a stand-alone file for examining or downloading later. The G sensor has three sensitivity options: high, medium and low. The responsiveness of this depends on the driving conditions. If the dashcam experiences emergency braking during the current recording, it will activate protective recording. A lock sign will appear on the upper right side of the screen, where you can set the G sensor according to your needs. If you are going on a rough road, set the sensitivity low to prevent freezing many files. You can view the incident footage on the digital screen or remove the SD to watch it on a laptop/PC. What does a G-sensor detect? Impact and motion detection are the first features to consider when buying a dashcam. These features are often present in the best car dash cameras in India. It detects the following:- Impact detection is recording a video file when activated by an internal built-in G sensor.  Motion detection records a video file when movement is detected by the video sensor. These two ensure that your car is always safe when a vehicle or person passes by and when the car is damaged.  What are the benefits of a built-in G sensor? The main advantage of a built-in G sensor is that the file will be protected in case of an incident. It ensures that the loop recording function on the dashcam will never overwrite the image. These devices also play a significant role when your car is in the parking lot. It can help offer a 24-hour parking monitoring service for your vehicle. Sometimes somebody might scratch your car in the parking lot, and it can be hard to identify the miscreant. This device saves the file to an individual folder to help you deal with the incident faster.

  3. Before buying a dashcam, ensure it comes with a G sensor. The device records footage of bumps, crashes and bruises. It is great and suitable for you while driving and in parking in case of an accident. Remember, you can adjust the setting to your preference. The more sensitive the sensor is, the more the footage will be recorded. Choose the dashcam with the best features and the latest technology.
