Removing Stains From Different Types Of Flooring Hardcore Concrete
All floors are subject to lots of traffic and sometimes spills and accidents happen resulting in a stain. With floor coverings like carpet, most stains can be removed using a solution of white vinegar and borax. Mix them together and rub into the stain and then when dry, vacuum up the mixture and the stain should be gone. Concrete polishing companies on the Gold Coast suggest it is not so easy with other types of flooring.
Asphalt tiles Stains and war and tare can often be removed from asphalt tiles using a solution of 1 cup of fabric softener in half a bucket of water. Apply with a mop without flooding the floor and use steel wool with floor wax to remove any stubborn stains
Brick flooring Brick flooring is porous so needs to be treated with a good surface sealer and waxed. Vacuum it at least once a week the wash with a vinegar water solution for a good shine. The wax should be stripped and then reapplied as needed, but avoid soaps, abrasives and strong acids
Ceramic flooring If you have glazed ceramic tiles they will be almost stain proof, although they are prone to cracking. Unglazed tiles should be treated in the same way as brick flooring.
Concrete floors Concrete is very porous and can stain easily unless it has been polished an treated with a special concrete floor sealer If your floor is unsealed it needs to be swept then cleaned with a commercial cleaner, then rinsed and dried before polishing or applying other surface products
Flagstone flooring and slate tile Natural stone and slate are rough and porous so need to be properly sealed using the appropriate sealer to make them stain resistant. To clean use an acrylic floor polish or paste applied using a floor polishing machine. The wax will then need to be stripped and reapplied occasionally. Mop weekly using fabric softener or a mild cleaner
Linoleum flooring Linoleum is still very popular because it’s easy to install and relatively cheap. Stains and mild marks can be removed by carefully using a fine steel wool pad. Linoleum does not like hot water, solvent based cleaning products or actions that cause scouring. Mostly it can be mopped clean with an all-purpose cleaner then allowed to dry before being vacuumed and waxed. Some, one step wax and cleaning floor treatment work well and help to keep up the shine with little effort.
Marble Tiles Marble tiles that have not been polished are extremely porous so need to be kept sealed with a commercial floor sealer. Once sealed, they can be mopped using clean water and a quality all-purpose, floor cleaner. Some people like to use self-polishing liquid waxes or water-based waxes. When changing the type of wax you use it is best to test a small area in a place that I not obvious as some waxes can cause discoloration
