  2. introduction • Nursing as emerged as challenging profession requires a high level of education ,knowledge ,skill &decision making capabilities.

  3. definition • Advanced practice nursing is defined as “practice based on knowledge and skills acquired in a basic nursing education through licensure as a registered nurse and in graduate education and experience ,including advanced nursing theory, physical assessment and psychosocial assessment and treatment of illness.

Nurse practitioners • Nurse practitioners engage in a variety of speciality roles such as family ,adult , paediatric ,geriatric ,women’s health school health , occupational health , mental health , emergency and acute care. • They assess and manage nursing problems. • They lay emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. • Some of them manage acute and chronic diseases.

  6. Job responsibilities • Taking patient history • Conducting physical examinations • Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests. • Prescribing pharmacological agents. Treatment. • Serve as primary care provider and consultant for individual families , and communities.

Clinical nurse specialists • CNS possess clinical expertise in a defined area of nursing practice for a selected patient population or clinical setting. • Greater emphasis on diagnosis and management of actual or potential health problems. • Function as expert clinician , educator , consultant , researcher and administrator. • CNS monitors the care of patients and collaborates with physicians , nurses, and other.

  11. Certified registered NURSE anaesthetist • The AANA developed and implemented a program of certification in 1945 and instituted mandatory recertification in 1978. • The association established an accreditation for nurse anaesthetist in 1952.

  12. The academic curriculum consists of a minimum of 30 credit hours of formalized graduate study in those courses such as advanced anatomy ,physiology ,path physiology ,advanced pharmacology ,principles of anaesthesia practice research methodology and statistical analysis.

  13. Education of CRNA • It ranges from 24to 36 months in an integrated programme of academic and clinical study. • All programs require approximately 1000 hours of hand on clinical experience.

  14. Admission requirements • It include a bachelor of science degrees in nursing, licence as a registered nurse, and a minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience. • CRNA’s have to successfully complete a written examination for certification.

  15. CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE • A certified nurse midwife is educated in two disciplines of nursing and midwifery and possess evidence of certification according to the requirements of a CNM. A CNM has successfully completed prescribed studies in midwifery. • A CNM is legally qualified to practice in one or more of the 50 states. • CNM is a individual who has successfully completed an CNM- accredited educational program in nurse midwifery and passed the national certification administered by the a CNM certification council.

  16. Midwifery care occurs within a variety of settings including homes, birthing centres, clinics and hospitals. • The midwife works with each women and her family to identify their unique physical, social and emotional needs. • Services provide include education and health promotion.

Nurse administrator • Individuals should typically hold a masters degree. • Nursing administration research focuses on organisational factors and management practices and their impact on nurses, nursing delivery services and patient outcomes. • They manage large budgets and a responsible for provision of quality care at a reasonable cost. • They serve at all management levels in health care organisations.
