  3. 2nd ANNUAL 24-25 August 2021 Riyadh Marriott, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia SMART CITIES SUMMIT AND EXPO WHY SAUDI SMART CITIES SUMMIT AND EXPO Understanding the plethora of challenges faced by cities across the globe to accommodate their citizens with the highest quality of life, the 2nd Annual Saudi Smart Cities Summit and EXPO is hosted in the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital and main financial hub. With COVID-19 creating havoc across the globe, national and municipal governments have been deploying smart city technologies in the fight against the coronavirus, using it to track the spread of the pandemic and support the implementation of medical strategies. As well as demon- strating the value of smart technologies, these new applications are helping shape the future of smart cities. Whilst overcoming COVID-19 is the most prioritised subject across the globe, the very existence of pandemic over the last 18 months has given rise to plethora of opportunities for governments to implement a range of technologies to overcome unprecedented challenges posed. By adopting or reinventing digital platforms, these smart cities are determined to stay one step ahead of the virus. AN UPDATE ON KINGDOM’S SMART CITIES As part of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s vision, Saudi Arabia aims to create the world's most livable city that can attract the greatest minds and best talents by 2030. Being primarily an oil-reliant economy today, the Kingdom is increasingly looking to diversify, and a smart city is a step in that direction. For instance, the Kingdom is looking at raising the share of non-oil exports in non-oil GDP from 16% to 50% by 2030. It also expects smart cities to add hundreds of thousands of jobs by 2030; smart cities are expected to "http://www.itp.net/emergent-tech/96814-dell-technologies-organis ations-uae-saudi-arabia-leads-world-digital-transformation"drive diversification and will contribute significantly to the domestic GDP by 2030. The Kingdom has already allocated $500 billion to invest across 285 municipalities to implement smart cities. Saudi Arabia has already initiated efforts towards transforming the first five cities, including Makkah, Riyadh, Jeddah, Al-Madinah, and Al-Ahsa. The country has a clear vision and has taken a holistic approach focusing on key dimensions such as governance, mobility, economy, environment, people, and living to achieve its aspirations. WHAT’S NEW With NEOM launched by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in 2017, the project has garnered greater interest from top-tier companies from across the globe and within the Kingdom. With the NEOM project alone estimated to cost around USD 500 Billion, earlier this year the government of Saudi Arabia unveiled its vision for a city without cars and street – “The Line” as a part of the NEOM project. The Line will extend over almost 200 kilometres, a corridor dug through the desert and made of smaller communities all connected to each other with a single ultra-high-speed transit line. No cars, but AI-enabled micro-mobility services; no streets or congestion, but an urban environment in which 95% of nature will be protected. All of which will be powered through the 100% renewable NEOM grid. 3 AGENDA | www.smartcitiessaudi.com
